Frame your credentials around industrial sales leadership
ABB's Business Manager roles sit at the intersection of technical knowledge and commercial execution. Tailor your resume to show P&L ownership, channel management, or key account experience within manufacturing or industrial automation, not generic business development.
Target ABB's electrification and motion divisions first
ABB clusters Business Manager openings around its core industrial segments. Focusing your search on divisions like Electrification or Motion, where project-based sales cycles align with your background, increases the relevance of your application before you reach the interview stage.
Use Migrate Mate to filter active Business Manager openings
ABB posts Business Manager roles across multiple locations and divisions at once. Use Migrate Mate to surface the sponsorship-eligible positions specifically, so you're not manually checking postings that won't support a visa application.
Clarify H-1B petition timing before accepting an offer
If you're outside the H-1B cap and not currently in status, confirm whether ABB will file in the April lottery window or pursue a cap-exempt pathway. Misaligned expectations here can delay your start date by up to a year.
Prepare your LCA documentation early with your employer
ABB must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before your H-1B petition reaches USCIS. Ask your HR contact or immigration counsel when this process begins so you're not the bottleneck on the prevailing wage determination for your specific business unit location.
Align your degree field to the specialty occupation standard
USCIS requires Business Manager roles to meet the specialty occupation threshold. A degree in business administration, management, or engineering paired with industry-specific experience in manufacturing strengthens the petition against any request for evidence on occupational qualification.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does ABB sponsor H-1B visas for Business Managers?
Yes, ABB sponsors H-1B visas for Business Manager roles. The company operates across manufacturing and industrial automation segments where demand for specialized commercial talent supports sponsorship. If you're pursuing this path, confirm with the hiring team early whether the specific role and location are eligible, since sponsorship decisions can vary by division and business unit.
How do I apply for Business Manager jobs at ABB?
You can browse and apply for Business Manager positions at ABB through Migrate Mate, which filters for visa-sponsorship-eligible openings so you're not wasting time on roles that won't support your application. Once you identify a role, apply directly and confirm sponsorship eligibility with the recruiter during the first screening call, before advancing through multiple interview rounds.
Which visa types does ABB typically use for Business Manager roles?
ABB most commonly uses the H-1B for Business Manager hires, which requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, ABB has also supported EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways, which typically involve PERM labor certification through the DOL before the immigrant petition is filed.
What qualifications does ABB expect for Business Manager candidates?
ABB's Business Manager roles in manufacturing typically require a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related technical field, combined with demonstrated experience managing commercial relationships or P&L responsibility in an industrial or capital equipment environment. Candidates with background in ABB's core segments, such as power distribution, drives, or automation, tend to be more competitive.
How do I plan my timeline if ABB is sponsoring my H-1B?
If you need a new H-1B and aren't currently in status, the standard cap-subject lottery runs in March for an October 1 start date, so plan for a six-month or longer gap between offer acceptance and your first day. If you're transferring an existing H-1B from another employer, ABB can file a portability petition and you can start once USCIS issues a receipt notice, often within a few weeks.
