Frame your credentials around P&L accountability
Johnson Controls Business Manager roles center on managing product lines, service contracts, or regional accounts with measurable financial outcomes. Document your P&L ownership, revenue targets, and cross-functional team leadership before you apply so your profile maps directly to what hiring managers are screening for.
Target roles tied to specific business units
Johnson Controls hires Business Managers across HVAC, fire and security, and industrial refrigeration segments. Applying to openings within a specific business unit rather than general corporate roles signals fit and increases your chances of landing a sponsor willing to file on your behalf.
Search Johnson Controls openings through Migrate Mate
Filter for Business Manager positions at Johnson Controls using Migrate Mate to surface roles where sponsorship is actively offered. This saves time you would otherwise spend cold-applying to postings that don't support visa candidates in this function.
Clarify TN eligibility before the offer stage
Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN status under the Management Consultant category if the Business Manager role involves advisory or analytical responsibilities. Confirm the job description aligns with DOL-recognized TN occupations before negotiating the offer, since TN adjudication happens at the port of entry.
Understand the LCA filing timeline relative to your start date
For H-1B transfers or new petitions, your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL before submitting to USCIS. Build at least 60 days of runway between your expected start date and the offer acceptance to give Johnson Controls' HR team adequate lead time.
Align your OPT or CPT work authorization with the role scope
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your authorized occupation code matches business management functions as defined by your Designated School Official. A mismatch between your authorized role and your actual responsibilities at Johnson Controls can create compliance issues that delay or complicate a future H-1B petition.

Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Business Managers?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for Business Manager roles. The company files as a cap-subject employer, which means new H-1B petitions are subject to the annual lottery each April for an October 1 start date. Transfers from an existing H-1B are not subject to the cap and can be initiated at any time with a job offer in hand.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly use for Business Manager roles?
Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas most commonly for Business Manager positions, along with EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for longer-term hires. F-1 OPT and CPT are also supported for recent graduates entering the function. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles may be eligible for TN status, and J-1 candidates in internship or training programs are occasionally sponsored as well.
How do I apply for Business Manager jobs at Johnson Controls?
You can browse and apply for Business Manager positions at Johnson Controls directly through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles where sponsorship is offered for international candidates. When you apply, tailor your resume to highlight P&L ownership, account or product line management, and industry experience in manufacturing or building technologies, since those are the competencies Johnson Controls consistently evaluates for this role.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls expect for Business Manager roles?
Johnson Controls typically looks for a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related field paired with experience managing commercial accounts, service contracts, or product portfolios in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Familiarity with HVAC, fire protection, or building automation systems is an advantage. Roles that involve managing multi-site or multi-product responsibility often require demonstrated cross-functional leadership experience as well.
How do I think about the timeline from offer to visa approval at Johnson Controls?
For H-1B transfers, USCIS typically processes standard petitions within three to six months, though premium processing can reduce that to around 15 business days. For new H-1B cap filings, the process begins with lottery registration in March and, if selected, a petition filed for an October 1 start. Build that timeline into your job search so you're targeting offers well before hard immigration deadlines.
