Align Your Credentials to U.S. Licensing Standards
State-level journeyman or master electrician licenses matter more to Johnson Controls hiring managers than international certifications alone. Research the licensing requirements for the state where the role is posted before you apply, and document any equivalency pathways early.
Target Roles in Industrial Controls and Building Systems
Johnson Controls consistently hires electricians with experience in building automation, HVAC electrical systems, and low-voltage controls. Framing your background around those specific systems puts your application in front of the teams that carry active sponsorship activity.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Sponsorship-Active Openings
Not every Johnson Controls electrician posting is tied to an active sponsorship pipeline. Use Migrate Mate to filter and identify the specific openings where Johnson Controls has a demonstrated track record of filing for visa sponsorship for this role type.
Understand How TN Status Applies to Electricians
TN visa eligibility for electricians is narrower than for engineers or IT professionals. If you're a Canadian or Mexican national, confirm with an immigration attorney whether your specific role and degree qualify before counting on TN as your sponsorship path.
Get Your H-1B Timing Right for Manufacturing Roles
For H-1B sponsorship, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. Manufacturing employers like Johnson Controls plan headcount around this cycle, so engaging recruiters in the November-to-January window gives you the best chance of being included in a spring registration.
Prepare for PERM if You're Targeting a Green Card Path
Johnson Controls sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, which require a PERM labor certification filed with DOL. Gathering your employment history, educational records, and any prior immigration documentation before an offer is made accelerates the process once your employer initiates filing.

Find Electrician at Johnson Controls JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Electricians?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas and has a track record of doing so for skilled trades and technical roles including electricians. Because H-1B requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, your application is strongest when the role involves advanced electrical systems, building automation, or industrial controls work that aligns with a relevant degree field.
How do I apply for Electrician jobs at Johnson Controls?
You can apply directly through the Johnson Controls careers portal, where electrician openings are listed by location and business unit. To find roles where Johnson Controls actively sponsors visas, browse Migrate Mate, which filters job postings by confirmed sponsorship activity. Tailor your resume to highlight systems-specific experience, relevant U.S. or equivalent licenses, and any prior work authorization history.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly use for Electrician roles?
Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for electricians. H-1B is most common for long-term placement. TN applies if you're a Canadian or Mexican national and the role meets the visa's occupational criteria. F-1 OPT and CPT are options if you're currently in a U.S. degree program with a relevant field of study.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls expect for sponsored Electrician positions?
Johnson Controls typically looks for journeyman-level experience or higher, with preference for electricians who have worked on commercial or industrial systems, building management platforms, or HVAC electrical components. A relevant associate's or bachelor's degree strengthens an H-1B petition significantly. State licensure or demonstrated eligibility to obtain it is often a practical requirement, especially for client-facing field roles.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Johnson Controls Electrician role?
Timeline depends on the visa type. F-1 OPT authorization through USCIS takes up to 90 days, so apply early. H-1B has an annual registration window in March with an October 1 start date, meaning the full cycle from offer to work authorization can take six months or more. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM process with DOL typically adds one to several years on top of that.
