Align Your PMP Credentials to Manufacturing Operations
Johnson Controls prioritizes Project Managers with credentials tied to industrial or building systems contexts. A PMP or CAPM certification framed around manufacturing workflows, not software delivery, positions your application closer to the roles they actually fill.
Target Roles Tied to Capital Projects
Johnson Controls regularly hires Project Managers to oversee HVAC, fire suppression, and energy infrastructure installations. Filtering your search toward capital projects or field operations roles gives you the best alignment with where sponsorship-eligible openings concentrate.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Sponsorship-Confirmed Openings
Not every Johnson Controls posting signals sponsorship upfront. Use Migrate Mate to browse Project Manager roles at Johnson Controls that are filtered by verified sponsorship history, saving you from applying blind to positions the company won't support.
Start OPT Applications Before Your Authorization Window Closes
If you're on F-1 OPT, Johnson Controls can hire you directly, but the H-1B cap lottery runs once a year with an October 1 start date. Missing the April filing window means waiting another full year, so timing your offer acceptance matters significantly.
Clarify Sponsorship Intent During the Offer Stage
Before signing an offer, ask specifically whether the role supports H-1B or permanent residency filing. Johnson Controls sponsors across multiple visa types, but individual business units make separate decisions, so confirming with the hiring manager avoids surprises after onboarding.
Prepare a PERM-Ready Employment Record Early
For Green Card sponsorship through PERM, DOL requires your employer to document your qualifications meet the minimum job requirements, not exceed them. Structuring your resume to match the stated requirements precisely, rather than highlighting senior achievements, prevents eligibility complications during the labor certification process.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Project Managers?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for Project Manager roles. The company has an active sponsorship track record for this function across its manufacturing and building technologies divisions. Because H-1B cap-subject petitions are tied to the annual lottery with an April filing window and an October 1 start date, your offer timeline needs to account for that cycle.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly use for Project Manager roles?
Johnson Controls sponsors across several visa categories for Project Managers, including H-1B, TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles), F-1 OPT and CPT for early-career candidates, J-1 visa for exchange visitors, and EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visa pathways for permanent residency. The right category depends on your nationality, degree field, and career stage.
What qualifications and experience does Johnson Controls expect for sponsored Project Manager roles?
Johnson Controls typically expects a bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, business, or a related field for Project Manager positions. Hands-on experience managing multi-phase projects in industrial, HVAC, fire safety, or building automation environments carries significant weight. PMP certification is frequently listed as preferred, and candidates with experience managing subcontractors or field teams in capital project settings are particularly competitive.
How do I apply for Project Manager jobs at Johnson Controls?
You can browse and apply for Project Manager openings at Johnson Controls directly through their careers portal. To find roles specifically confirmed for visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which filters Johnson Controls listings by sponsorship history so you can focus your applications on positions the company has committed to supporting. Tailoring your resume to reflect the specific project environment listed in each posting improves your screening outcome.
How do I manage the timeline between a Johnson Controls offer and my visa filing?
If your offer involves an H-1B petition, Johnson Controls would need to file with USCIS during the April registration window for an October 1 start. For TN status, Canadian nationals can often receive approval at the port of entry with minimal lead time. If you're transitioning from OPT, confirm your authorization end date immediately so HR can initiate the petition before any gap in work authorization.
