Align your resume to Johnson Controls verticals
Sales Manager roles at Johnson Controls are tied to specific product lines like fire protection, HVAC, or building automation. Tailoring your resume to a vertical, not just a generic sales background, signals you can carry a quota in that segment from day one.
Request H-1B sponsorship early in negotiations
Once you have a verbal offer, confirm sponsorship intent before the written offer is drafted. H-1B filing windows are tight, and Johnson Controls' HR teams need lead time to engage immigration counsel and prepare the Labor Condition Application with DOL.
Get your credentials evaluated before applying
If your engineering or business degree is from outside the U.S., obtain a credential evaluation from a NACES-member agency before your first interview. Johnson Controls' Sales Manager roles in manufacturing often require a specialty occupation determination, and a verified equivalency strengthens your H-1B petition.
Target open territories, not just open requisitions
Johnson Controls organizes its sales force by territory and vertical market. Searching for roles in regions with new construction activity or industrial expansion gives you a stronger case that you're filling a genuine business need, which supports the employer's PERM or H-1B filing rationale.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring roles
Not every Johnson Controls posting signals sponsorship willingness. Use Migrate Mate to browse open Sales Manager positions at Johnson Controls that are tied to their sponsorship history, so you're applying where your visa type is already a known quantity.
Understand TN eligibility if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship
If you're Canadian or Mexican, a Sales Manager role tied to engineering systems or technical products at Johnson Controls may qualify under the TN category as a Management Consultant or Engineer. Confirm the job description maps to a qualifying USMCA profession before your offer letter is finalized.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Sales Managers?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for Sales Manager roles. The key requirement is that the position qualifies as a specialty occupation, typically supported by a degree in engineering, business, or a related technical field. Johnson Controls works with immigration counsel to file the Labor Condition Application with DOL and the H-1B petition with USCIS, so sponsorship is a structured process rather than an ad hoc decision.
How do I apply for Sales Manager jobs at Johnson Controls?
Applications go through Johnson Controls' careers portal. Search by business unit or vertical, such as fire and security, HVAC, or building technologies, since Sales Manager openings are organized by product line and geography. Before applying, confirm the role description includes language about a degree requirement in a technical or business field, which is the clearest signal the position supports visa sponsorship.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly use for Sales Manager roles?
Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas most frequently for Sales Manager positions, along with TN visas for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals in technically defined roles. F-1 OPT and CPT are available for recent graduates entering sales roles during their authorized work period. For long-term permanent residence pathways, Johnson Controls has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for employees who demonstrate sustained performance and meet the role's degree requirements.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls expect for Sales Manager candidates seeking sponsorship?
Johnson Controls typically expects a bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related technical discipline, combined with proven B2B sales experience in industrial or commercial environments. Familiarity with building systems, energy management, or fire and security solutions is a clear differentiator. Because visa sponsorship requires a specialty occupation finding, roles that blend technical depth with sales leadership tend to have the strongest sponsorship cases.
How do I time my application around H-1B filing deadlines at Johnson Controls?
USCIS opens H-1B registration in early March each year for the lottery, with the fiscal year cap starting October 1. If you're targeting Johnson Controls for H-1B sponsorship, aim to have an offer finalized by February so HR has time to prepare DOL and USCIS filings. If you're on F-1 OPT, your employment authorization can bridge the gap while the petition is pending. Migrate Mate lists current Johnson Controls Sales Manager openings filtered by sponsorship history, which helps you identify active roles within that window.
