Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Maintenance Engineer Jobs at Johnson Controls Jobs
Certify Your Credentials Before Applying
Johnson Controls maintenance roles often require documented proficiency with HVAC, BAS, or industrial control systems. Get any foreign technical certifications evaluated by a NACES-approved credential evaluator so hiring managers can map your background to U.S. equivalents without delay.
Target Facilities with Active Service Contracts
Johnson Controls wins large facility management and building automation contracts that drive recurring maintenance headcount. Search their open roles filtered by contract sites, data centers, and manufacturing campuses, where sustained operations create the strongest sponsorship business case.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Sponsorship-Ready Openings
Not every Johnson Controls posting signals sponsorship willingness equally. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Maintenance Engineer openings where Johnson Controls has an active sponsorship history, so you're applying where authorization support is realistic.
Align Your Resume to LCA Job Duties
For H-1B sponsorship, DOL requires an approved Labor Condition Application tied to a specific job description. Match your resume's listed responsibilities to the exact specialty occupation language in the posting, since inconsistencies between your experience and the LCA can slow USCIS adjudication.
Clarify OPT or CPT Timing with the Recruiter Early
If you're on F-1 OPT, Johnson Controls can bring you on before H-1B sponsorship begins, but your OPT end date needs to align with the next H-1B cap filing window. Confirm the expected start date against your I-20 employment authorization period before accepting an offer.
Prepare for a Technician-Level Skills Assessment
Johnson Controls frequently screens Maintenance Engineer candidates with hands-on or scenario-based technical evaluations covering PLC troubleshooting, preventive maintenance scheduling, and safety compliance. Documenting prior experience with CMMS platforms like Maximo or SAP PM strengthens both your interview performance and your specialty occupation petition.

Find Maintenance Engineer at Johnson Controls JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Maintenance Engineers?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for Maintenance Engineer roles where the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field. The process involves your employer filing a Labor Condition Application with DOL and then submitting an H-1B petition to USCIS. Because H-1B cap slots are limited and selected by lottery each April, timing your offer and application carefully is critical.
How do I apply for Maintenance Engineer jobs at Johnson Controls?
Applications go through Johnson Controls' careers portal, where Maintenance Engineer postings are listed by location and service line. Tailor your resume to the specific technical systems mentioned in each posting, since Johnson Controls' maintenance teams vary by site. Migrate Mate also aggregates Johnson Controls' Maintenance Engineer openings with sponsorship context, making it easier to identify which roles align with your visa situation before you apply.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly use for Maintenance Engineer roles?
Johnson Controls has sponsored Maintenance Engineers under the H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1, and employment-based Green Card categories including EB-2 and EB-3. TN is a fast, cap-exempt option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles. EB-3 is the most common Green Card path for Maintenance Engineers, typically filed after a PERM labor certification through DOL confirms no qualified U.S. worker is available for the role.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls expect for Maintenance Engineer positions?
Most Maintenance Engineer postings at Johnson Controls require a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering, plus hands-on experience with building automation, HVAC, or industrial equipment. Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems and preventive maintenance programs is frequently listed. For H-1B sponsorship specifically, USCIS requires the role to be a specialty occupation, so engineering credentials need to align directly with the posted job duties.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Johnson Controls Maintenance Engineer role?
Timeline depends on visa type. H-1B sponsorship requires DOL LCA certification, typically two to three weeks, followed by USCIS petition adjudication, which runs three to six months for standard processing or two to three weeks with premium processing. TN status for Canadians can be obtained at a port of entry on the start date. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship, if offered, generally takes one to three years from labor certification through USCIS approval.
