Align Your Resume to LCA Job Codes
Johnson Controls files Labor Condition Applications with DOL under specific Standard Occupational Classification codes for Operations roles. Match your resume's title, duties, and experience to the SOC codes that appear in LCA filings for industrial or manufacturing operations positions.
Target Facilities With Active Production Contracts
Johnson Controls operates manufacturing and service facilities across the U.S. Roles tied to active production contracts or building technology installations are more likely to justify H-1B or TN sponsorship because the business need is concrete and time-sensitive.
Secure Degree Equivalency Documentation Early
Operations roles at a manufacturing company like Johnson Controls often require demonstrating that your degree qualifies as a specialty occupation. Get a foreign credential evaluation before you apply so you're not scrambling after an offer.
Understand Johnson Controls' PERM Timeline Expectations
If you're targeting permanent residency through EB-2 or EB-3, PERM recruitment and DOL certification can take a year or more before USCIS ever sees the petition. Raise green card intent early in negotiations so the employer can plan the timeline alongside your H-1B status.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Sponsoring Operations Roles
Operations openings at large manufacturers rarely advertise sponsorship explicitly. Use Migrate Mate to filter Johnson Controls listings by visa type so you're applying only to roles where sponsorship has already been confirmed, not guessing from job descriptions.
Prepare for TN Status If You Hold Canadian or Mexican Citizenship
Operations and industrial engineering roles at Johnson Controls can qualify under TN visa categories, which require no USCIS petition and no lottery. Bring your offer letter, a detailed duties letter, and your credentials to the port of entry.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Operations roles?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for Operations positions, particularly in engineering, process management, and technical operations functions that meet the specialty occupation standard. Because H-1B selection depends on the annual lottery, your employer must submit your registration in March for an October start. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, a transfer to Johnson Controls avoids the lottery entirely.
How do I apply for Operations jobs at Johnson Controls?
You can apply directly through Johnson Controls' careers portal, but many roles don't specify visa sponsorship in the listing. Migrate Mate filters Johnson Controls Operations openings by visa type, so you can identify positions where sponsorship is available before applying. Tailor your application to the specific facility and function, whether that's production, logistics, or building systems, since hiring decisions are often made at the site level.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls use for Operations professionals?
Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT and CPT, J-1 visa, and immigrant visa categories including EB-2 and EB-3 for Operations roles. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering and operations occupations. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates. The EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways are used for longer-term employees moving toward permanent residence.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls expect for sponsored Operations roles?
Most sponsored Operations positions at Johnson Controls require a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, supply chain management, or a closely related field. Roles in building technologies may also require systems or electrical engineering backgrounds. Practical experience with lean manufacturing, ERP systems, or HVAC and controls equipment is commonly expected, and your degree field must align with the specific duties to satisfy USCIS specialty occupation requirements.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an Operations hire at Johnson Controls?
Timeline depends on visa type. OPT and TN authorizations can move quickly, within days to a few weeks. H-1B cap-subject petitions follow a fixed annual schedule, with a March lottery and an October 1 start date. USCIS standard processing for an approved H-1B petition takes three to six months; premium processing reduces that to roughly two weeks. PERM-based Green Card cases typically take two or more years from initiation to immigrant visa approval.
