Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
H-1B eligibility for Project Controls Managers requires your degree to directly align with the role. A background in construction management, engineering, or project management signals a clear specialty occupation fit to USCIS reviewers handling manufacturing sector petitions.
Target Johnson Controls divisions with active capital programs
Johnson Controls staffs Project Controls Managers most heavily in divisions running large infrastructure and building systems contracts. Search by business unit, not just job title, to find postings tied to active project pipelines where sponsorship need is immediate.
Browse open roles using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Project Controls Manager openings at Johnson Controls by visa type, so you're only applying to roles where your specific work authorization is already supported rather than guessing from a generic job listing.
Clarify your OPT STEM extension eligibility early
Project Controls Manager roles in manufacturing often qualify under STEM OPT extension if your degree is in engineering or a related field. Confirm your classification with your DSO before accepting an offer, since Johnson Controls uses E-Verify as required for STEM extension employers.
Document project cost control experience in concrete terms
Johnson Controls interviewers for this function focus on earned value management, schedule variance analysis, and cost forecasting. Quantify your experience in these areas on your resume to strengthen the specialty occupation narrative in any visa petition that follows.

Find Project Controls Manager at Johnson Controls JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Project Controls Managers?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for Project Controls Managers. This role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation because it requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as engineering, construction management, or project management. Johnson Controls has an established immigration process and works with legal counsel to file H-1B petitions, including during the annual April cap season.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly sponsor for Project Controls Manager roles?
Johnson Controls sponsors several visa categories for this function, including H-1B, TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering or management roles), F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, J-1 for exchange visitors, and EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visas for permanent residence. The right pathway depends on your nationality, degree field, and where you are in your career.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls expect for a sponsored Project Controls Manager?
Johnson Controls generally looks for a bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a closely related discipline, along with hands-on experience in cost control, earned value management, and project scheduling. Familiarity with large-scale building systems or industrial infrastructure projects strengthens your candidacy. Professional certifications such as PMI-SP or AACE credentials are viewed favorably and can support the specialty occupation case in a visa petition.
How do I apply for Project Controls Manager jobs at Johnson Controls?
You can search for Project Controls Manager openings directly on the Johnson Controls careers site or use Migrate Mate to filter roles by visa sponsorship type, which saves time by surfacing only positions where your work authorization is already supported. When applying, tailor your resume to highlight cost forecasting, schedule control, and stakeholder reporting experience, since these are the competencies Johnson Controls evaluates for this function.
How do I plan my timeline if Johnson Controls is sponsoring my H-1B for this role?
If you're moving from F-1 OPT, your employer needs to file your H-1B petition by April 1 for an October 1 start under the standard cap. Gap coverage through OPT or a cap-gap extension from USCIS bridges the period between filing and approval. For PERM-based green card sponsorship, factor in at least 12 to 18 months for the DOL process alone before USCIS even reviews the immigrant petition.
