Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
H-1B eligibility for HVAC Project Manager roles requires a degree in mechanical engineering, construction management, or a directly related field. A general business or unrelated degree weakens the specialty occupation argument, so gather official transcripts and equivalency evaluations early.
Target Johnson Controls divisions with active project pipelines
Johnson Controls staffs HVAC Project Managers heavily around large-scale commercial retrofits and industrial HVAC installations. Applying to divisions or regions with active building automation or HVAC service contracts improves your chances of reaching a hiring manager with an immediate headcount need.
Confirm sponsorship willingness before deep interview stages
Ask the recruiter directly whether the specific business unit has sponsored for this role before. Some Johnson Controls divisions route international hiring through centralized HR while others handle it locally, and confirming early saves time if a particular team lacks the budget or process.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open HVAC roles by sponsorship history
Search Johnson Controls HVAC Project Manager openings on Migrate Mate to identify which postings align with the company's sponsorship track record. Filtering by visa type saves you from applying to roles where sponsorship is off the table before you even get to a phone screen.
Understand the LCA filing requirement before your offer stage
Before Johnson Controls can file your H-1B petition, it must certify a Labor Condition Application with the DOL confirming the offered wage meets the prevailing wage for your work location. If your role spans multiple sites, each work location may require a separate LCA posting.
Factor PERM timing into Green Card conversations at offer
If Johnson Controls agrees to sponsor an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card, PERM recruitment must be completed before the I-140 petition can file. For HVAC Project Manager roles, that process typically involves specific DOL-mandated job postings, so raise this timeline in your offer negotiation rather than after you start.

Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Hvac Project Managers?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for HVAC Project Manager roles. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering, construction management, or a related technical field. Sponsorship availability can vary by division and work location, so confirming early in the hiring process with the specific business unit is advisable.
How do I apply for Hvac Project Manager jobs at Johnson Controls?
You can apply through Johnson Controls' careers portal directly, or use Migrate Mate to browse HVAC Project Manager openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility. When applying, highlight project management experience on large-scale HVAC or building systems installations, relevant certifications like PMP or LEED, and your degree in a qualifying technical field to strengthen your candidacy for sponsored roles.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly use for Hvac Project Manager roles?
Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas most commonly for HVAC Project Manager roles, with EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways available for longer-term employment. F-1 OPT and CPT can be used for recent graduates entering project management roles, and TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering or management classifications.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls expect for Hvac Project Manager roles?
Johnson Controls typically expects a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or construction management for HVAC Project Manager positions. Hands-on experience managing HVAC installations, building automation systems, or facilities retrofits is heavily weighted. Certifications such as PMP, LEED, or ASHRAE credentials strengthen your profile and support the specialty occupation determination required for H-1B sponsorship.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take at Johnson Controls?
Standard H-1B processing through USCIS takes three to six months after the petition is filed. Johnson Controls must first complete a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before the petition can be submitted. Filing is tied to the annual H-1B cap with a lottery in March, so if you're cap-subject, your start date would be October 1 at the earliest. Premium processing reduces USCIS adjudication to around 15 business days.
