Align your credentials to manufacturing operations
Johnson Controls prioritizes candidates with demonstrated experience in industrial or building technology environments. Before applying, document process improvement projects, P&L ownership, or supply chain oversight in manufacturing settings so your resume directly mirrors their operational language.
Target postings that list LCA-eligible locations
Johnson Controls operates across multiple U.S. metro areas with different DOL prevailing wage tiers. Prioritize openings in locations where the posted role matches a certified Labor Condition Application, since the LCA must be filed before your H-1B petition can move forward.
Clarify sponsorship scope during the offer stage
Some large manufacturers distinguish between cap-subject H-1B sponsorship and OPT or TN support. Ask the recruiter directly which petition types the business unit is authorized to initiate, so you know whether you are being offered full H-1B sponsorship or a shorter-term work authorization bridge.
Prepare for PERM documentation early if targeting Green Card
Johnson Controls sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for operations roles, but PERM requires extensive recruitment documentation from the employer. Ask during negotiations whether your position qualifies and how far into your tenure the company typically initiates labor certification.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsorship openings
Searching Johnson Controls job boards directly does not surface sponsorship eligibility clearly. Use Migrate Mate to browse Business Operations Manager openings at Johnson Controls that are verified for visa sponsorship, saving time you would otherwise spend screening roles manually.
Leverage TN status if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship
Business Operations Manager roles at Johnson Controls can qualify under the TN Management Consultant or Engineer categories depending on your degree and job duties. TN status processes at the border with no USCIS filing, so your start date can be confirmed faster than an H-1B cap-subject case.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Business Operations Managers?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for Business Operations Manager roles. The company has an established immigration program that includes both cap-subject H-1B petitions and extensions. Because H-1B sponsorship requires the employer to file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL and an I-129 petition with USCIS, confirm with the recruiter early that the specific business unit is authorized to initiate sponsorship before accepting an offer.
How do I apply for Business Operations Manager jobs at Johnson Controls?
Apply through Johnson Controls' official careers portal or use Migrate Mate to browse verified Business Operations Manager openings that include visa sponsorship. Tailor your application to highlight operational leadership in manufacturing, industrial services, or building technology environments, since Johnson Controls evaluates candidates against direct industry experience. Follow up with the recruiter to confirm sponsorship eligibility before the final interview stage.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly use for Business Operations Manager roles?
Johnson Controls uses H-1B, F-1 OPT and CPT, TN visa, J-1 visa, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for operations roles. H-1B is the most common long-term route. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose duties align with a qualifying USMCA category. OPT and CPT support entry-level and early-career hires who are still completing or recently graduated from a U.S. degree program.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls expect for Business Operations Manager candidates?
Johnson Controls typically looks for a bachelor's degree in business administration, operations management, engineering, or a related field, along with several years of experience managing cross-functional teams or operational functions in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Familiarity with lean methodologies, budget ownership, and KPI-driven performance management strengthens your candidacy considerably. An MBA or relevant professional certification can differentiate you for senior-level openings.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Business Operations Manager at Johnson Controls?
Timeline depends on the visa type. For H-1B cap-subject cases, the process runs from lottery registration in March through an October 1 start date at the earliest, so plan at least six to nine months ahead. OPT extensions and TN status move faster, often within weeks of an offer. Green Card sponsorship through PERM can take two or more years depending on your country of birth and the employer's internal timeline for initiating labor certification.
