Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
H-1B eligibility for Business Operations Manager roles requires a directly related bachelor's degree, not just general business experience. USCIS scrutinizes operational titles closely, so frame your degree in supply chain, industrial engineering, or life sciences management when applying.
Target Thermo Fisher divisions with recurring operational openings
Roles in laboratory operations, clinical supply chain, and bioproduction consistently appear across Thermo Fisher's business units. Focusing your applications on these divisions improves your chances of landing a role with an established sponsorship workflow already in place.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Business Operations Manager openings
Searching across Thermo Fisher's full job board manually is time-consuming. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Business Operations Manager roles that list visa sponsorship, so you spend time on applications that are already open to sponsored candidates.
Clarify CPT or OPT authorization before your start date
If you're transitioning from F-1 status, confirm your authorized start date aligns with your CPT or OPT period. Thermo Fisher's HR teams work within USCIS-defined authorization windows, and a gap between your offer letter date and valid work authorization can delay onboarding significantly.
Prepare for a multi-stage H-1B filing timeline
H-1B cap filings open in March for an October 1 start date. If your offer comes outside that window, ask Thermo Fisher's immigration team about cap-exempt options or whether a change of status from OPT or TN status is available for your situation.
Understand the PERM process for long-term sponsorship
If permanent residency is your goal, ask about EB-2 or EB-3 PERM sponsorship during the offer stage. Thermo Fisher has sponsored Green Cards for operational roles, and the DOL's PERM labor certification process typically begins after you've established tenure in your position.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Business Operations Managers?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Business Operations Manager roles. The company has an internal immigration team that manages petitions across its divisions. Because H-1B is a specialty occupation visa, your degree field needs to directly relate to the operational responsibilities of the role, so generic business degrees without relevant technical coursework can create complications during USCIS review.
How do I apply for Business Operations Manager jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Applications go through Thermo Fisher's careers portal, where you can filter by job function and location. To find roles that explicitly offer visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which surfaces Business Operations Manager openings at Thermo Fisher filtered by sponsorship eligibility. Tailor your resume to highlight cross-functional project leadership and experience in regulated or laboratory environments, which align with the company's core operational needs.
Which visa types does Thermo Fisher Scientific commonly use for Business Operations Manager roles?
Thermo Fisher sponsors H-1B visas for most Business Operations Manager hires requiring work authorization. For candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 status, the company also works with F-1 OPT and CPT arrangements while an H-1B is pending. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying business operations roles. For longer-term employees, EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM process is available.
What qualifications does Thermo Fisher Scientific expect for Business Operations Manager roles?
Thermo Fisher typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, industrial engineering, life sciences, or a related technical field, along with demonstrated experience managing cross-functional operations in a regulated industry. Familiarity with GMP environments, ERP systems like SAP, and process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma is frequently referenced in job postings across the company's laboratory and bioproduction divisions.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Timelines depend on the visa type. H-1B cap filings have a fixed annual window, with petitions submitted in March and employment starting October 1 at the earliest. USCIS standard processing runs three to six months, though premium processing can reduce that to 15 business days. PERM labor certification for Green Card sponsorship typically takes one to two years before an I-140 petition is filed, so planning well ahead of any status expiration is essential.
