Frame your experience around solution selling
Johnson Controls sells building management systems, HVAC, fire, and security solutions to enterprise clients. Tailor your resume to show quota-carrying B2B experience in technical or capital equipment sales, not consumer or transactional roles.
Target roles tied to vertical markets
Johnson Controls structures its sales org around verticals like healthcare, data centers, and industrial facilities. Applying to roles aligned with a vertical where you have domain knowledge strengthens your case and signals immediate productivity to hiring managers.
Confirm sponsorship eligibility before your final round
Raise visa sponsorship directly with the recruiter before the offer stage. For H-1B transfers, confirm the role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS criteria, since some business development titles require careful job duty documentation to satisfy that standard.
Understand how PERM timing affects your offer
If you're targeting a Green Card pathway through EB-2 or EB-3, PERM labor certification typically adds 12 to 24 months before the I-140 petition can be filed. Factor this into your negotiation if you're transitioning from OPT or a short-duration visa.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsorship openings
Search Migrate Mate to find Sales Business Development roles at Johnson Controls that have a confirmed visa sponsorship history. Filtering by role and visa type saves time compared to scanning general job boards where sponsorship eligibility is rarely disclosed upfront.
Prepare a clear narrative for your visa interview
For TN or H-1B consular processing, be ready to explain how your Sales Business Development duties require specialized knowledge in building systems or industrial solutions. Consular officers assess whether the role genuinely requires the degree field you're sponsoring under.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Sales Business Developments?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for Sales Business Development roles. The key requirement is that the position qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, meaning it must normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Sales roles tied to technical solutions like building automation or fire and security systems tend to meet this bar more clearly than general business development titles.
How do I apply for Sales Business Development jobs at Johnson Controls?
Applications go through Johnson Controls' careers portal at johnsoncontrols.com/careers. Search by role type and location, then apply directly. Before submitting, confirm that the posting includes visa sponsorship language or follow up with the recruiter early in the process. Migrate Mate also lists Johnson Controls Sales Business Development openings and filters specifically for roles with a visa sponsorship track record, which saves time identifying the right positions.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly use for Sales Business Development roles?
Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas most commonly for Sales Business Development positions, along with TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. The company also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students in relevant programs, J-1 visa for exchange visitors, and immigrant visa pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term sponsorship. The visa type used depends on your nationality, degree field, and the specific role's job duties.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls look for in Sales Business Development candidates?
Johnson Controls typically expects a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related technical field for Sales Business Development roles. Relevant experience in B2B solution selling, particularly in building systems, HVAC, industrial controls, or facility services, carries significant weight. Familiarity with enterprise sales cycles, CRM tools, and managing large account relationships is frequently cited in job postings. Technical certifications in building automation or fire systems can strengthen your profile for vertically specialized roles.
How do I time my job search if I'm on F-1 OPT and targeting Johnson Controls?
If you're on F-1 OPT, start your search at least three to four months before your OPT expiration to leave room for offer and onboarding timelines. STEM OPT extensions give you up to 24 additional months if your degree qualifies, which provides a stronger runway for H-1B cap registration in April. Johnson Controls participates in the H-1B cap cycle, so an offer secured before March positions you for the annual lottery with a timely I-129 filing.
