Translate your credentials into manufacturing PM terms
Johnson Controls hires Program Managers to oversee complex building systems and industrial contracts. Frame your resume around scope, schedule, and cross-functional delivery in manufacturing or construction contexts, not generic project management language.
Target open requisitions tied to specific business units
Johnson Controls posts Program Manager roles across HVAC, fire and security, and industrial refrigeration divisions. Applying to a unit where your technical background aligns increases your odds of reaching a hiring manager who can champion sponsorship approval internally.
Clarify your visa category before the offer stage
Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B, TN, and OPT among other categories. Know which status you hold and which you need before the offer conversation, so HR can route you to the right immigration process without delays from internal triage.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Program Manager roles by sponsorship type
Searching broadly wastes time on roles that won't support your visa status. Use Migrate Mate to filter Johnson Controls Program Manager openings by the specific visa types you need, so every application you submit is worth the effort.
Understand PERM timelines if you need a Green Card pathway
Johnson Controls sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 for eligible roles. DOL's PERM process can take 12 to 18 months before an I-140 petition is even filed, so raise long-term sponsorship intentions during negotiations rather than after you've accepted an offer.
Verify your I-9 eligibility documentation matches what E-Verify requires
Johnson Controls is a federal contractor and uses E-Verify for all new hires. Ensure your work authorization documents are current and consistent before your start date, since discrepancies in E-Verify create onboarding holds that can complicate your status.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Program Managers?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for Program Manager roles. Program Managers typically qualify as specialty occupation workers given the degree requirements for the position. Because Johnson Controls is a federal contractor, it uses E-Verify, which means your work authorization documentation needs to be in order before your first day. If you're already on H-1B with another employer, Johnson Controls can file an H-1B transfer to bring you over.
How do I apply for Program Manager jobs at Johnson Controls?
You can apply through Johnson Controls' careers portal at careers.johnsoncontrols.com, filtering by job function and location. Migrate Mate also aggregates Johnson Controls Program Manager openings and lets you filter by visa sponsorship type, which is useful if you need to confirm sponsorship eligibility before investing time in an application. Tailor your materials to the specific business unit, since HVAC, fire and security, and industrial divisions each have distinct scope expectations.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly use for Program Manager roles?
Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1 visa, EB-2, and EB-3 for eligible roles including Program Managers. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. F-1 OPT and CPT cover students in active academic programs. EB-2 and EB-3 are the primary Green Card pathways for this role, with PERM labor certification required before the immigrant petition can proceed.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls expect for a sponsored Program Manager role?
Johnson Controls typically expects a bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related technical field for Program Manager roles, along with demonstrated experience managing multi-site or multi-discipline projects. PMP certification is commonly listed as preferred. For H-1B eligibility, the role must qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning the degree requirement must be directly tied to the specific job duties rather than broadly applicable across fields.
How do I think about timing when pursuing sponsorship at Johnson Controls?
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT expiration date before applying, since H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed for an October 1 start date and USCIS requires a March filing window. STEM OPT extensions give you up to 24 additional months of buffer. For TN holders, Johnson Controls can begin a new TN at any point since TN status is not subject to the H-1B annual cap or lottery.
