Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
H-1B eligibility for Operations Manager roles requires demonstrating the position demands a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. Document how your engineering, supply chain, or industrial management degree directly underpins the technical decisions you make on the job.
Target Johnson Controls plant and facility openings
Johnson Controls hires Operations Managers for specific manufacturing sites and service branches. Filtering by location and facility type narrows your search to roles where sponsorship decisions are made locally, giving you a more direct path to the hiring team.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active Johnson Controls openings
Operations Manager postings at Johnson Controls move quickly and are often site-specific. Use Migrate Mate to filter for visa-sponsoring roles at Johnson Controls so you're applying to positions with an active sponsorship pathway, not guessing from a generic job board.
Clarify TN eligibility if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship
TN status under USMCA covers industrial engineers and management consultants but does not list Operations Manager as a qualifying category. If you're targeting TN, confirm with your employer's immigration counsel that your specific role description fits a covered classification before the offer stage.
Get your PERM timeline into your offer negotiation
If your goal is a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, the PERM labor certification process typically takes 12 to 18 months before USCIS even sees a petition. Raise your long-term sponsorship expectations during offer discussions so both sides align before you sign.
Prepare OPT and CPT authorization documents before interviews
Johnson Controls has sponsored F-1 OPT and CPT candidates for Operations Manager roles. Have your EAD card, I-20, and DSO contact details ready so HR can confirm authorization quickly. Delays in verifying work authorization through E-Verify often stall offers at the final stage.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Operations Managers?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for Operations Manager roles. The key requirement is that the position qualifies as a specialty occupation, meaning it demands a specific bachelor's degree in a field directly related to the work. Roles tied to building systems, manufacturing engineering, or industrial operations are the most likely to meet that threshold. Your degree field and job duties both need to align for the petition to hold up under USCIS review.
How do I apply for Operations Manager jobs at Johnson Controls?
Apply through Johnson Controls' careers portal at johnsoncontrols.com/careers, filtering by operations or manufacturing functions and your target location. Tailor your resume to reflect direct P&L responsibility, team leadership, and process improvement results, as those are consistent themes in their Operations Manager postings. You can also browse open roles at Johnson Controls that offer visa sponsorship through Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for sponsoring employers.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly use for Operations Manager roles?
Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B, TN visa, J-1 visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Operations Manager positions, and supports Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term employees. H-1B is the most common route for non-USMCA nationals. TN visa is an option for Canadian and Mexican citizens whose role description fits a qualifying USMCA category, which requires careful review since Operations Manager is not explicitly listed.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls expect for Operations Manager candidates seeking sponsorship?
Johnson Controls typically looks for a bachelor's degree in engineering, operations management, supply chain, or a related technical field, combined with demonstrated experience managing manufacturing or facility operations. Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or HVAC and building systems is a recurring theme in their job postings. For H-1B purposes, the more technically specialized your role description, the stronger the specialty occupation argument USCIS will evaluate.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an Operations Manager offer at Johnson Controls?
For H-1B, if you're subject to the annual lottery, expect the process to span several months from registration in March to a potential October 1 start date. Premium processing through USCIS can accelerate the petition adjudication to roughly 15 business days once filed. For F-1 OPT extensions or TN status, timelines are shorter. Green Card sponsorship through PERM is a multi-year process and is typically discussed after you've established yourself in the role.
