Frame your PMP or PMI credentials prominently
ABB's manufacturing divisions prioritize structured project delivery. Certifications like PMP signal that you can manage complex, multi-site industrial programs, which directly strengthens the specialty occupation case USCIS evaluates in your H-1B petition.
Target ABB's industrial automation and electrification divisions
Not all of ABB's business units hire at the same pace. Program Manager openings cluster in motion, electrification, and process automation. Filtering your search by these divisions puts you in front of the roles most likely to carry sponsorship budget.
Align your resume to ABB's stage-gate project language
ABB uses stage-gate and earned value management frameworks across its manufacturing programs. Mirroring that language in your application signals operational fit and gives hiring managers less friction when building the business case for sponsoring a candidate.
Browse open Program Manager roles using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by visa sponsorship history, so you can surface ABB Program Manager openings where sponsorship is a realistic outcome rather than spending time on postings with no track record of supporting international hires.
Clarify your status before the offer stage
ABB's HR teams often ask about work authorization early. Be specific: state whether you need H-1B cap sponsorship, a transfer, or an O-1 visa. Ambiguity at this stage slows the offer process and can push your start date past the October 1 cap-subject window.
Understand the DOL prevailing wage step before negotiating
Your H-1B petition requires ABB to certify a Labor Condition Application with the DOL at or above the prevailing wage for your location and role level. Reviewing DOL wage data for Program Managers in your target city helps you negotiate from an informed baseline.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does ABB sponsor H-1B visas for Program Managers?
Yes, ABB sponsors H-1B visas for Program Manager roles. The company files cap-subject petitions through the annual USCIS lottery as well as cap-exempt transfers for candidates already holding H-1B status with another employer. Program Manager positions typically qualify as specialty occupations given their degree requirements in engineering, operations, or a related technical field.
How do I apply for Program Manager jobs at ABB?
Applications go through ABB's careers portal at new.abb.com/careers. Filter by job family and location to find Program Manager openings across ABB's manufacturing divisions. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse ABB Program Manager listings filtered by sponsorship history, which helps you focus on postings where international candidates have been hired before.
Which visa types does ABB typically use for Program Manager hires?
ABB most commonly sponsors H-1B visas for Program Managers at the initial hire stage. For longer-term pathways, the company uses employment-based Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, typically under EB-2 or EB-3 classifications depending on the role's degree and experience requirements. Your eligibility for each pathway depends on your educational background and the specific position level.
What qualifications does ABB expect for a sponsored Program Manager role?
ABB generally requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related technical discipline for Program Manager positions. Professional certifications such as PMP strengthen your profile considerably in a manufacturing context. Experience managing cross-functional industrial or automation projects is weighted heavily, and ABB often expects familiarity with stage-gate processes, earned value management, or lean manufacturing methodologies.
How do I plan my timeline around H-1B sponsorship at ABB?
The H-1B cap lottery opens in March each year, with approved petitions taking effect October 1. If ABB extends you an offer and you need cap-subject sponsorship, you'll need to be in place before the March registration window. USCIS also offers premium processing for faster adjudication, which ABB may elect to use depending on the urgency of your start date.
