Frame your resume around operational impact
Johnson Controls values measurable process improvements, cost reduction, and cross-functional coordination in its Business Operations teams. Quantify outcomes from past roles in manufacturing or industrial settings, not just responsibilities, before you apply.
Target roles with PERM-eligible scope
Some Business Operations positions at Johnson Controls involve long-term strategic functions that qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship through PERM. When reviewing job descriptions, look for language about permanent program ownership rather than project-based or contract work.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type
Johnson Controls posts Business Operations roles across multiple business units. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for positions open to your visa category, so you're applying where sponsorship is already confirmed rather than guessing from a generic careers page.
Clarify OPT start dates during offer negotiation
If you're on F-1 OPT, your employment start date must align with your EAD validity window. When you reach the offer stage, confirm Johnson Controls can accommodate your authorized start date before USCIS processes any cap-gap or H-1B extension paperwork.
Align your degree field to the specific posting
Business Operations roles at Johnson Controls can sit under supply chain, finance, or engineering functions. USCIS reviews specialty occupation criteria tightly, so your degree field needs to match the operational discipline listed, not just general business administration.
Engage the recruiter on sponsorship before the final interview
Manufacturing companies like Johnson Controls route sponsorship approvals through HR and legal before an offer is issued. Raising your visa status early avoids late-stage delays and signals you understand the employer's internal process.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Business Operations?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for Business Operations roles. The H-1B requires your position to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning it typically calls for a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field like supply chain, finance, or engineering. Because H-1B cap-subject petitions are subject to a lottery, timing your application cycle with Johnson Controls' hiring plans is important.
How do I apply for Business Operations jobs at Johnson Controls?
Apply directly through Johnson Controls' careers portal, where Business Operations roles are listed by business unit and location. Before applying, confirm the role is open to sponsored candidates by reviewing the job description for visa sponsorship language. Migrate Mate is a useful way to browse Johnson Controls' Business Operations openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, so you're not applying blind.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly use for Business Operations roles?
Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1 visa, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Business Operations positions. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible occupational categories. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates, with H-1B sponsorship often following for strong performers once the lottery window opens.
What qualifications are expected for Business Operations roles at Johnson Controls?
Johnson Controls typically expects a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business, supply chain management, industrial engineering, or finance. For H-1B sponsorship, the degree must align directly with the role's core functions as USCIS evaluates specialty occupation criteria at the position level. Experience in manufacturing environments, ERP systems, and cross-functional program coordination strengthens your candidacy significantly.
How do I navigate the timeline from offer to visa filing at Johnson Controls?
After an offer is extended, Johnson Controls' immigration team typically works with outside counsel to prepare filing documents. For H-1B cap-subject petitions, USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start date, so your offer timing needs to account for that cycle. If you're on OPT, your 60-day grace period and cap-gap protections govern your work authorization bridge while the petition is pending.
