About the Team
The SMB Business Development team partners with leading small- to medium-sized restaurant operators across the U.S. to grow and deepen their presence on DoorDash. We focus on acquiring and retaining top restaurant selection by helping merchants transition from multi-platform distribution to exclusive partnerships, while introducing them to DoorDash's full suite of growth solutions—including marketing, fulfillment, and guest engagement tools.
About the Role
As an SMB Business Development Executive II - Acquisition, you will help us acquire exclusivity with the highest-value restaurant partners in our managed SMB segment. In this role, you will lead strategic negotiations and develop data-backed proposals that drive profitability and efficiency for our most valuable SMB merchants. You'll operate as a strategic advisor — using insights, financial modeling, and cross-functional collaboration to design exclusive partnerships that enhance both merchant success and DoorDash's competitive position.
You'll collaborate cross-functionally with teams including Account Management, US Local Markets, Local Marketing, Strategic Finance, Product, and Selection to develop scalable solutions and refine our exclusivity go-to-market strategy. Your insights and feedback will directly influence the evolution of our sales playbook and product development.
As DoorDash continues to expand its merchant solutions — from marketing and fulfillment to loyalty and guest engagement — our Proactive Exclusivity team plays a key role in shaping how top restaurants experience these products. This role offers a front-row seat to innovation and the opportunity to directly influence product strategy through merchant feedback.
You will report to the Manager of SMB Business Development. We expect this role to be flexible with 30%+ of your time traveling into key markets with additional flexibility to work remotely or from a DoorDash office. In addition, this role will require the ability to travel as needed for in-person collaboration through training, offsites, team-building events, and other business related necessity.
You're excited about this opportunity because you will…
- Secure exclusive SMB partners: Lead high-touch, strategic negotiations to win exclusivity with top-value restaurant merchants
- Build data-backed deals: Develop financial models and proposals that drive merchant growth and DoorDash profitability
- Shape the exclusivity GTM: Inform how we sell exclusivity at scale by identifying what works across markets and segments
- Advise merchants strategically: Act as a trusted partner, aligning DoorDash products to merchant goals
- Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with Account Management, Finance, Product, Marketing, and Local Markets teams
- Refine sales playbooks: Translate deal learnings and merchant feedback into scalable talk tracks and pitch materials
- Own execution end-to-end: Manage opportunities from strategy through close in a fast-moving environment
- Operate entrepreneurially: Move quickly, lead through ambiguity, and take ownership of outcomes
We're excited about you because you have…
- 4+ years of experience in B2B sales, business development, or strategic partnerships
- A strong record of closing complex, high-value deals from end to end
- A consultative sales approach and the ability to align tailored solutions to partner needs
- Experience collaborating across cross-functional stakeholders to deliver integrated outcomes
- Strong financial and business acumen, including comfort working with P&Ls and ROI analysis
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with shifting priorities
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
- Experience using data and analytics to inform deal strategy and influence stakeholders
- Experience structuring or renegotiating complex commercial agreements
- Familiarity with restaurant operations, delivery economics, or digital marketing within a marketplace environment (preferred)

Frame your BD experience around marketplace dynamics
DoorDash evaluates Business Development candidates on their ability to structure and close partnership deals within platform or marketplace businesses. Highlight experience with multi-sided networks, merchant or supplier negotiations, or API-driven integrations rather than generic sales outcomes.
Identify open roles by vertical before applying
DoorDash organizes its BD function by vertical, including restaurant partnerships, convenience and grocery, and international expansion. Targeting roles aligned to your industry background signals fit faster than applying broadly and strengthens your case during sponsor conversations.
Clarify your visa category early in recruiter screens
DoorDash sponsors multiple visa types for Business Development, so name your exact status on the first recruiter call. Conflating OPT, H-1B, and E-3 causes delays. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm whether your role qualifies for STEM extension eligibility with your DSO before the offer stage.
Use Migrate Mate to filter DoorDash BD openings by visa type
Sponsorship availability varies by role level and team. Use Migrate Mate to surface active Business Development positions at DoorDash filtered to your specific visa category, so you're only spending time on roles that match your authorization needs.
Anticipate the LCA step when negotiating a start date
Before USCIS can approve an H-1B or E-3 petition, DoorDash's legal team must file and receive a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL. This step alone can take one to two weeks. Build that window into your expected start date rather than treating offer signing as the final hurdle.
Prepare a portfolio of deal metrics for your visa petition
H-1B and E-3 petitions for Business Development roles must demonstrate that the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a degree in a specific field. Quantified deal outcomes, contract structures, and strategic frameworks from past roles strengthen the evidentiary record your employer submits to USCIS.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does DoorDash sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development?
Yes, DoorDash sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development roles. The company has an established legal infrastructure for handling visa petitions across its BD organization. Because H-1B sponsorship requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, roles with clear degree requirements in business, economics, or a related field are the strongest candidates for petition approval.
Which visa types does DoorDash commonly sponsor for Business Development roles?
DoorDash sponsors a broad range of visa categories for Business Development, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, E-3 visa for Australian citizens, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican professionals, F-1 OPT and CPT for current students, J-1 visa, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. The right category depends on your nationality, degree, and career stage.
What qualifications does DoorDash expect for Business Development roles?
DoorDash typically looks for candidates with experience in partnership development, deal structuring, or strategic alliances, ideally within a technology platform or marketplace environment. A bachelor's degree in business, economics, or a related field is standard. For senior roles, a track record of closing complex, multi-stakeholder agreements and cross-functional collaboration with product or engineering teams carries significant weight.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at DoorDash?
You can find and filter active Business Development roles at DoorDash on Migrate Mate, which surfaces openings by visa type so you can identify positions that match your work authorization status before applying. When you apply directly, tailor your resume to DoorDash's vertical structure, whether that's restaurant partnerships, convenience, or enterprise accounts, since the team is organized by market segment rather than geography alone.
How do I understand the visa petition timeline once DoorDash extends an offer?
After an offer is signed, DoorDash's immigration counsel typically files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL first, which must be certified before the USCIS petition can be submitted. Standard USCIS processing for an H-1B or E-3 runs several months, though premium processing can reduce USCIS adjudication to roughly 15 business days. Factor both steps into your planned start date and stay in close contact with your employer's legal team throughout.
