Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
H-1B eligibility for Sales Executives hinges on demonstrating that the role requires a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. Frame your engineering, business, or technical background against the complexity of Johnson Controls' building systems solutions portfolio.
Target territory-based openings in industrial hubs
Johnson Controls structures its sales force around geographic territories tied to manufacturing and commercial construction markets. Roles in regions with high industrial density move faster and often have more urgent headcount needs, which strengthens your sponsorship conversation.
Bring up sponsorship after a technical screen
Raising visa sponsorship in a first-round call can end the conversation before it starts. Wait until you've demonstrated fit for the HVAC, fire, or security product line you'd be selling, then address sponsorship directly with the hiring manager or recruiter.
Verify your OPT STEM extension eligibility before applying
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm whether your degree qualifies for a 24-month STEM extension before your initial 12 months run out. This buys time between your start date and the next H-1B cap season without requiring Johnson Controls to file immediately.
Search Johnson Controls sales roles on Migrate Mate
Filter for Sales Executive openings at Johnson Controls on Migrate Mate to surface roles where the company has already indicated sponsorship eligibility. This saves time compared to parsing job descriptions that are vague about visa support.
Understand the PERM timeline if you're targeting a Green Card
Johnson Controls sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, but PERM labor certification typically adds 12 to 18 months before USCIS even begins adjudicating. Ask your recruiter early whether the role is structured for long-term sponsorship, not just initial visa filing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Sales Executives?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for Sales Executive roles. The role typically needs to meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning the position requires a degree in a specific field such as engineering, business, or a related discipline. Johnson Controls has a consistent pattern of H-1B sponsorship across its sales organization, particularly for roles tied to technical product lines like HVAC, fire safety, and security systems.
How do I apply for Sales Executive jobs at Johnson Controls?
Apply directly through the Johnson Controls careers portal at johnsoncontrols.com/careers. Search by job function and filter for sales roles. You can also browse open Sales Executive positions at Johnson Controls on Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles with confirmed sponsorship eligibility. Tailor your application to the specific product line or territory the role covers, since Johnson Controls organizes its sales teams by vertical and geography.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls sponsor for Sales Executive roles?
Johnson Controls sponsors multiple visa categories for Sales Executives, including H-1B, TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), F-1 OPT and CPT, J-1 visa, and Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3. TN visas can be particularly efficient for Canadian nationals in sales roles that map to eligible USMCA professional categories. The right visa type depends on your nationality, degree, and where you are in the immigration process.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls look for in Sales Executive candidates who need sponsorship?
Johnson Controls typically looks for a bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related technical field, combined with B2B sales experience in industrial, commercial, or building technology markets. Familiarity with HVAC, fire suppression, security systems, or energy management strengthens your candidacy significantly. For H-1B sponsorship specifically, the degree-to-role alignment matters, so a technical or business degree that maps directly to the product line you'd be selling is important.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Sales Executive role at Johnson Controls?
Timeline depends on visa type. H-1B sponsorship is tied to the annual cap, with the lottery running in March for an October 1 start date. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, a transfer can happen faster. TN visas for eligible Canadian nationals can be obtained at the border in a single day. Green Card sponsorship through PERM typically runs 18 months or more before USCIS adjudication begins. Discuss timelines with your Johnson Controls recruiter early in the process.
