Align your PMP credentials before applying
Johnson Controls lists PMP certification as a preferred or required qualification for Construction Project Manager roles. Having it before you apply removes a common objection and signals you can step into project delivery without a ramp-up period.
Target open requisitions in specific regions
Johnson Controls posts Construction Project Manager roles tied to regional infrastructure contracts. Filter by state on their careers portal and prioritize locations with active manufacturing or HVAC systems buildouts, where hiring timelines are tighter and sponsorship decisions move faster.
Use Migrate Mate to track Johnson Controls openings
Sponsoring Construction Project Manager roles appear and close quickly. Use Migrate Mate to monitor Johnson Controls listings filtered by visa sponsorship so you apply within the first week a role goes live, before hiring pipelines fill.
Frame your specialty occupation case early
H-1B approval for Construction Project Manager roles depends on USCIS accepting the position as a specialty occupation requiring a specific bachelor's degree. Emphasize in your resume and cover letter that your degree is in construction management, civil engineering, or a directly related field.
Ask about LCA status during the offer stage
Before signing an offer, confirm with the recruiter whether Johnson Controls has already filed the Labor Condition Application with DOL or is initiating it. LCA certification is required before your H-1B petition can be submitted, and knowing the status helps you anticipate your start date.
Prepare documentation for OPT or CPT continuity
If you're transitioning from F-1 OPT, gather your I-20, EAD card, and employment verification letters ahead of the offer. Johnson Controls' HR teams processing CPT and OPT transitions need these quickly, and having them ready prevents delays in getting you on-site.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Construction Project Managers?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for Construction Project Manager positions. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS criteria when the position requires a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a closely related field. Your resume and degree documentation should make that connection explicit to support the petition.
How do I apply for Construction Project Manager jobs at Johnson Controls?
Apply directly through the Johnson Controls careers portal, or use Migrate Mate to find and monitor Johnson Controls Construction Project Manager openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility. Tailor your application to highlight project delivery experience in building systems, HVAC infrastructure, or manufacturing environments, since those align closely with Johnson Controls' core contracts.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly use for Construction Project Manager roles?
Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for experienced hires and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates transitioning from university programs. The company also sponsors TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering and project management roles, and has pursued EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for longer-term employees in this function.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls expect for sponsored Construction Project Manager positions?
A bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or mechanical engineering is the baseline. Johnson Controls also expects demonstrated experience managing subcontractors, reading construction drawings, and overseeing building systems installations such as HVAC, fire suppression, or security systems. PMP certification strengthens your application and is listed as preferred on many of their active requisitions.
How do I time my application around the H-1B cap and sponsorship process?
USCIS opens H-1B cap registration in March each year for an October 1 start date. If you're targeting Johnson Controls for a sponsored role, aim to have an offer and completed petition well before March so your employer can register you in the lottery. For F-1 OPT holders, a timely H-1B filing also protects your authorization if your OPT expires during the cap gap period.
