Align your credentials with U.S. licensure expectations
Michael Baker International routinely works on federally funded infrastructure projects where a PMP certification or state-issued PE license carries real weight. If your credentials are foreign-issued, get them evaluated by a NACES-member agency before applying.
Target project types that match your background
Michael Baker staffs Construction Project Managers across transportation, water, and government facilities programs. Applying to roles that match your specific sector experience, like highway construction or federal design-build, makes a specialty occupation case far easier to support.
Understand how TN status applies to your role
Canadian and Mexican nationals in construction management can often pursue TN status under the Engineer category if the role requires a relevant degree. Confirm the job description explicitly lists engineering or technical oversight responsibilities before assuming TN eligibility.
Ask about LCA timing before accepting an offer
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can process an H-1B petition. Ask during offer negotiation where they are in that process so your start date is realistic and not delayed by filing backlogs.
Use Migrate Mate to find open roles filtered by sponsorship
Construction Project Manager openings at Michael Baker International cycle frequently across U.S. regions. Browse current listings on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for employers with active visa sponsorship histories so you are not wasting applications on roles that will not support your status.
Prepare for PERM if your goal is permanent residence
Michael Baker International has sponsored workers through EB-2 and EB-3 green card pathways. The PERM labor certification process requires your employer to document recruitment efforts before DOL filing, so raise long-term sponsorship intentions early in the offer stage, not after onboarding.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Michael Baker International sponsor H-1B visas for Construction Project Managers?
Yes, Michael Baker International sponsors H-1B visas for Construction Project Managers. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation because it requires at least a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field. Your employer files the petition with USCIS after obtaining a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL. If you are subject to the H-1B cap, timing your application around the annual lottery window in March is essential.
Which visa types are commonly used for Construction Project Manager roles at Michael Baker International?
H-1B is the most common path for Construction Project Managers at Michael Baker International, but the company also sponsors F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, TN visa status for Canadian and Mexican nationals with engineering degrees, J-1 visa for certain training-based arrangements, and EB-2 or EB-3 for those pursuing permanent residence. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree field, and how far along you are in your career.
What qualifications and experience does Michael Baker International expect for Construction Project Manager roles?
Most Construction Project Manager openings at Michael Baker International require a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a closely related discipline. Several years of field experience on transportation, infrastructure, or federal construction programs is typically expected. A PMP certification or progress toward a Professional Engineer license strengthens your application, particularly for roles tied to federally funded projects where technical oversight responsibilities are central to the position.
How do I apply for Construction Project Manager jobs at Michael Baker International?
You can browse and apply for Construction Project Manager roles at Michael Baker International through Migrate Mate, which surfaces openings filtered by sponsorship history so you can focus on roles where international candidates have a realistic path. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific project type listed, whether transportation, water infrastructure, or federal facilities, and make clear your visa status upfront to avoid delays later in the hiring process.
How do I plan my timeline when pursuing H-1B sponsorship through Michael Baker International?
If you need a new H-1B and are subject to the annual cap, USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start date. That means your offer needs to be in place well before March so your employer can register you in the lottery. If you are already on OPT or OPT STEM extension, you have more flexibility, but the 60-day grace period between jobs means you cannot afford a long hiring process gap. Start conversations with the recruiting team about sponsorship willingness before you reach the final interview stage.
