Align your credentials with PE licensing expectations
Michael Baker prioritizes engineers working toward or holding a Professional Engineer license. Before applying, confirm your foreign degree is evaluated by a NACES-recognized agency so hiring managers can assess your qualifications against state PE board requirements without delay.
Target project-heavy infrastructure openings specifically
Michael Baker staffs Structural Engineers on bridge, highway, and federal facility contracts. Roles tied to active DOT or federal projects tend to move faster through offer and sponsorship decisions because headcount is already budgeted against a contract.
Browse open Structural Engineer roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by visa sponsorship type, so you can find Michael Baker International openings confirmed for H-1B, OPT, or other sponsorship categories without manually screening postings that may not sponsor.
Understand how PERM fits long-term sponsorship planning
For EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, your employer must run a PERM labor certification through DOL before filing an immigrant petition. Engineering roles at project-based firms often qualify, but the process typically takes one to two years before a visa becomes current.
Negotiate sponsorship commitment before signing an offer
Consulting firms sometimes classify sponsorship decisions project-by-project rather than company-wide. Get written confirmation in your offer letter that Michael Baker will sponsor the specific visa type you need, and confirm which office location will be listed as your worksite for LCA purposes.

Find Structural Engineer at Michael Baker International JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Michael Baker International sponsor H-1B visas for Structural Engineers?
Yes, Michael Baker International sponsors H-1B visas for Structural Engineers. Which visa types are commonly used for Structural Engineer roles at Michael Baker International?
Structural Engineers at Michael Baker International commonly use H-1B, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for early-career or student roles. The company also sponsors TN visas for qualified Canadian and Mexican nationals, and supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for engineers seeking permanent residence. J-1 is less common but has been used for training-focused placements.
What qualifications and experience are expected for Structural Engineer roles at Michael Baker International?
Most Structural Engineer openings at Michael Baker require a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering, with a master's degree preferred for senior roles. Experience with bridge, transportation, or federal infrastructure projects is valued. Proficiency in software like STAAD, RISA, or Bentley products is commonly listed. Progress toward a Professional Engineer license strengthens your application significantly, particularly for project-lead positions.
How do I apply for Structural Engineer jobs at Michael Baker International?
You can apply through Michael Baker International's careers site or find their sponsored openings on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for visa sponsorship eligibility. When applying, tailor your resume to the project type listed in the posting, such as bridge or highway work, and note your work authorization status clearly so recruiters can route your application to the appropriate hiring team.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process take for Structural Engineers at Michael Baker International?
Timeline depends on visa type. An H-1B transfer for someone already holding the visa can move in a few weeks once an offer is signed. A cap-subject H-1B requires filing in April for an October 1 start, meaning the process from offer to work authorization can take six months or more. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship adds one to two years beyond that, depending on your priority date and country of birth.
