Align your credentials with WSP's project types
WSP's structural work spans bridges, transit infrastructure, and complex building systems. Tailor your portfolio and resume to reflect experience in at least one of these verticals before applying. Generalist structural resumes get lost in high-volume applicant pools.
Confirm your PE licensure pathway early
Many WSP Structural Engineer roles expect EIT registration or active PE licensure, depending on seniority. If you're on OPT, clarify your exam eligibility timeline with your state board before your first interview so it doesn't stall an offer.
Target WSP offices in infrastructure-heavy markets
WSP's Structural Engineering hiring concentrates in offices supporting large public contracts. Cities with active DOT and transit programs tend to have the most open roles and the strongest internal appetite for sponsoring international candidates in this discipline.
Use Migrate Mate to filter WSP openings by visa type
Not every WSP posting explicitly states which visas are supported. Use Migrate Mate to surface Structural Engineer roles at WSP filtered by sponsorship type, so you're spending time on positions where your visa status is already workable.
Ask about LCA timing before accepting an offer
WSP must file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before submitting your H-1B petition to USCIS. Confirm with your recruiter that this step is scoped into the offer timeline so your start date doesn't slip due to administrative sequencing.
Prepare a degree equivalency letter if your bachelor's is three years
Australian and many South Asian structural engineering degrees run three years. USCIS requires evidence that your degree is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's for H-1B specialty occupation purposes. Commission a credential evaluation before your petition is filed, not after an RFE arrives.
Structural Engineer at WSP jobs are hiring across the US. Find yours.
Find Structural Engineer at WSP JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does WSP sponsor H-1B visas for Structural Engineers?
Yes, WSP sponsors H-1B visas for Structural Engineers. The role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards because it requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in structural or civil engineering. WSP handles the employer-side filings, including the Labor Condition Application with DOL and the I-129 petition with USCIS, though your offer timing will need to account for the H-1B cap lottery if you're not already in H-1B status.
How do I apply for Structural Engineer jobs at WSP?
Apply directly through WSP's careers portal, where roles are listed by location and discipline. For the most targeted search, Migrate Mate lets you filter WSP's Structural Engineer openings by visa sponsorship type so you can identify positions where your immigration status is already accounted for. When applying, tailor your materials to reflect the specific project type the role supports, whether that's transportation, buildings, or infrastructure.
Which visa types does WSP commonly use to hire Structural Engineers?
WSP sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Structural Engineers, and supports Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-tenured employees. Australian citizens often use the E-3 because it bypasses the H-1B lottery, while Canadian and Mexican engineers may qualify for TN status under the USMCA professional category for engineers, which doesn't require advance USCIS approval.
What qualifications does WSP expect for Structural Engineer roles?
WSP typically expects a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited program, along with EIT registration for junior roles and active PE licensure for senior or project-lead positions. Proficiency in structural analysis software such as ETABS, SAP2000, or RISA is commonly listed. Roles supporting transportation infrastructure may also require familiarity with AASHTO or FHWA design standards depending on the client portfolio.
How do I time my H-1B application if I'm finishing OPT at WSP?
If WSP offers you a full-time role while you're on OPT, your employer needs to submit your H-1B registration during the USCIS lottery window each March for an October 1 start. If you're on a 24-month STEM OPT extension, you have more runway, but WSP's HR team should initiate the process at least six months before your OPT expiration to leave time for cap registration, selection, and petition filing.
