Tailor your resume to WSP's project structure
WSP organizes Project Assistants around specific service lines like transportation, environment, and buildings. Align your resume to one of these verticals and reference relevant software tools like ProjectWise or MS Project to signal fit before the sponsorship conversation starts.
Confirm your visa type matches the role
WSP sponsors several visa categories for Project Assistants, but the right one depends on your nationality and degree. If you're Australian, the E-3 is faster and simpler than the H-1B. Confirm which pathway applies to your situation before submitting your application.
Target WSP's campus and early-career pipelines
WSP actively recruits Project Assistants through university partnerships and internship conversion programs. F-1 OPT and CPT candidates should connect with WSP's campus recruiting team directly, as these hires often convert to sponsored full-time roles before positions are publicly posted.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Project Assistant roles
WSP posts Project Assistant positions across multiple geographies and service lines. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for WSP openings that include visa sponsorship, so you're only applying to roles where your work authorization situation won't be an obstacle.
Prepare your credential documents before the offer stage
WSP's HR team will need your official transcripts, degree certificates, and a foreign credential evaluation if you studied outside the U.S. Have a NACES-approved evaluation ready in advance so it doesn't slow down your I-129 or LCA preparation after an offer is made.
Understand the LCA filing timeline before negotiating your start date
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before USCIS can process your H-1B petition. Standard DOL certification takes seven business days. Build that into your start date discussion so neither side is caught off guard by the sequencing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does WSP sponsor H-1B visas for Project Assistants?
Yes, WSP sponsors H-1B visas for Project Assistant roles. Because the H-1B requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, WSP typically hires Project Assistants with a bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, planning, or a related field. Your degree field needs to align with the specific service line you're supporting.
How do I apply for Project Assistant jobs at WSP?
Apply directly through WSP's careers portal, or use Migrate Mate to browse open Project Assistant positions at WSP that are flagged for visa sponsorship. When you apply, be upfront about your work authorization status in the application. WSP's recruiters are familiar with sponsorship timelines, but they need to know your situation from the first conversation.
Which visa types does WSP commonly use for Project Assistant roles?
WSP sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card pathways for Project Assistants. F-1 students often start on CPT or OPT and transition to H-1B sponsorship after demonstrating strong performance. Australian candidates should specifically ask about the E-3 option, which avoids the H-1B lottery entirely.
What qualifications does WSP expect for sponsored Project Assistant positions?
WSP generally expects a bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the service line, such as civil engineering, environmental science, architecture, or urban planning. Practical experience with project scheduling tools, document control systems, or field support is valued. Candidates coming through F-1 OPT should have completed coursework directly tied to the team's technical focus area.
How do I plan my timeline when pursuing H-1B sponsorship at WSP?
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed on April 1 for an October 1 start date, so your offer and USCIS registration need to happen in the first quarter of the year. If your OPT expires before October, WSP may be able to use the OPT cap-gap extension to bridge the gap. Align your job search and offer timeline to the USCIS annual H-1B cycle to avoid losing a full year.
