Frame your credentials around infrastructure sectors
WSP's business development work sits at the intersection of engineering and client advisory. Tailor your resume to show experience winning or managing consulting engagements in infrastructure, environmental services, or government contracting, not just general sales.
Target WSP's regional offices strategically
WSP staffs business development roles by geography and sector. Research which regional office leads the practice area you're targeting, and direct your application there rather than applying to a generic national posting.
Clarify your visa category before final interviews
Australian citizens should confirm E-3 eligibility early. WSP sponsors both H-1B and E-3 for this function, and E-3 avoids the lottery entirely, which can matter when a hiring manager is weighing timeline risk against a competing domestic candidate.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by sponsorship type
Not every WSP posting specifies which visa categories are supported. Search for Business Development Professional openings at WSP on Migrate Mate to surface roles where sponsorship is confirmed and filter by the visa type that fits your situation.
Understand how LCA filing affects your start date
WSP must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting your H-1B petition to USCIS. LCA certification typically takes seven business days, so factor that into any negotiated start date during the offer stage.
Document client-facing wins in quantifiable terms
WSP's business development hiring process assesses your ability to grow revenue and manage key accounts. Prepare a portfolio showing named contract wins, pipeline value grown, or client retention outcomes before you reach the final-round interview.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does WSP sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Professionals?
Yes, WSP sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Professionals. Because H-1B cap-subject petitions are subject to an annual lottery, timing matters. If you're already on an existing H-1B with another employer, a transfer to WSP bypasses the lottery entirely. Australian citizens can also pursue the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and can be processed directly at a U.S. consulate.
How do I apply for Business Development Professional jobs at WSP?
Applications go through WSP's careers portal, where you can filter by role type and location. Before applying, confirm the posting supports visa sponsorship, as not all roles specify this clearly. Migrate Mate lists open Business Development Professional positions at WSP with sponsorship details surfaced, which makes it easier to identify the right postings before you invest time in a full application.
Which visa types does WSP commonly use for Business Development Professionals?
WSP sponsors H-1B and E-3 visas most commonly for this function, along with TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals and F-1 OPT for recent graduates in business or related fields. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, WSP has supported EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, which typically follows a period of full-time employment and involves PERM labor certification through the DOL.
What qualifications does WSP expect for Business Development Professional roles?
WSP generally looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, environmental science, or a related field, paired with direct experience managing or expanding client accounts in consulting or professional services. Roles that involve specialty occupation status for H-1B purposes require a degree specifically tied to the position's duties, so a generalist sales background without a relevant degree can complicate the sponsorship case.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when joining WSP?
Timeline depends on your visa type. E-3 processing at an Australian consulate typically takes two to four weeks after the employer completes the LCA. H-1B transfers for candidates already holding H-1B status can move faster, sometimes within a few weeks with USCIS premium processing. Cap-subject H-1B petitions follow the annual October 1 start date, so a lottery selection in April means you'd start no earlier than October.
