Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Business Development Professional Jobs at AbbVie Jobs
Align your CV to AbbVie's therapeutic focus
AbbVie's BD team works heavily across immunology, oncology, and neuroscience. Frame your deal experience, licensing work, or partnership management around these areas specifically so recruiters can immediately see fit with live pipeline priorities.
Verify your degree field before applying
H-1B eligibility for BD roles requires a specialty occupation degree. Life sciences, business with a pharma focus, or an MBA tied to scientific work strengthens your case. A general business degree alone can create complications at USCIS adjudication.
Search AbbVie's open BD roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters AbbVie's Business Development Professional openings by visa type so you can target roles where your specific sponsorship category is already supported before investing time in applications.
Engage AbbVie's talent acquisition team at biotech conferences
AbbVie recruiters are active at JPMorgan Healthcare Conference and BIO International. Direct conversations there let you establish visa sponsorship expectations upfront, before a formal application, which reduces late-stage surprises.
Use your OPT or CPT period strategically
F-1 students on OPT have 60 days to secure a new role if employment ends. AbbVie's structured internship pipeline in BD can convert to full-time sponsorship, so prioritize applying to conversion-eligible roles before your authorized period expires.

Find Business Development Professional at AbbVie JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does AbbVie sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Professionals?
Yes, AbbVie sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Professional roles. Because BD positions at AbbVie typically require specialized knowledge in life sciences, deal structuring, or licensing within a highly technical industry, they generally satisfy USCIS's specialty occupation standard. Your degree field and how the role is defined in the petition both affect approval, so it helps to understand how AbbVie frames the position before the filing.
How do I apply for Business Development Professional jobs at AbbVie?
Applications go through AbbVie's careers portal at abbvie.com/careers. Search for Business Development roles and filter by location. Tailoring your application to AbbVie's therapeutic focus areas, specifically immunology, oncology, or aesthetics, improves visibility. You can also browse verified sponsorship-eligible openings through Migrate Mate, which surfaces AbbVie BD roles filtered by visa type so you're not guessing which positions are open to international candidates.
Which visa types does AbbVie commonly use for Business Development Professional roles?
AbbVie supports a range of visa categories for this function. H-1B is the most common path for candidates requiring employer sponsorship. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3, which avoids the H-1B lottery entirely. Canadians and Mexicans may qualify under TN status depending on their degree and role definition. AbbVie also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for longer-term hires, and works with F-1 OPT and CPT candidates at the entry level.
What qualifications does AbbVie expect for Business Development Professional roles?
AbbVie typically looks for candidates with a background in life sciences, pharmacy, or medicine combined with experience in deal evaluation, licensing negotiations, or strategic partnerships. An MBA or advanced scientific degree is common among successful applicants. For international candidates, it also helps to have experience with biopharma transaction structures, as AbbVie BD roles involve cross-functional work across legal, finance, and R&D teams from day one.
How do I plan my timeline if AbbVie is sponsoring my H-1B?
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed once per year, with USCIS opening registration in March for an October 1 start date. If you receive an offer outside this window, AbbVie may use premium processing to reduce adjudication time to around 15 business days once the petition is filed. Build at least six months of lead time into your job search to avoid gaps between status expiration and your start date.
