Align Your Portfolio to Pharma Data Problems
AbbVie evaluates Data Science Engineers against real drug development workflows. Projects involving clinical trial data, genomics pipelines, or regulatory-grade model validation carry more weight than general ML work when your profile is reviewed.
Target Roles Tied to Specific Therapeutic Areas
AbbVie organizes Data Science Engineering work around therapeutic areas like oncology, immunology, and neuroscience. Applying to roles aligned with your domain experience, not just your technical stack, gives your application a more precise fit against their internal hiring criteria.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Open Roles by Visa Type
Not all AbbVie Data Science Engineer postings surface sponsorship details upfront. Migrate Mate filters verified sponsoring employers by visa category, so you can identify which open AbbVie roles are actively recruiting candidates who need authorization.
Anticipate the PERM Timeline If You Want Permanence
AbbVie sponsors Green Cards through the PERM labor certification process for qualifying Data Science Engineers. PERM requires DOL-supervised recruitment and typically takes 12 to 18 months before an I-140 petition can be filed, so raise permanent residency intentions early in negotiations.
Prepare for a Technical Interview Covering Regulated Environments
AbbVie's Data Science Engineering interviews often include questions on data governance, reproducibility, and GxP-compliant pipelines. Having concrete examples of working under data validation requirements or FDA-adjacent standards strengthens your case at the offer stage.

Find Data Science Engineer at AbbVie JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does AbbVie sponsor H-1B visas for Data Science Engineers?
Yes, AbbVie sponsors H-1B visas for Data Science Engineers. Data Science Engineering roles at AbbVie typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria given the degree requirements in computer science, statistics, or a related quantitative field. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, your employer would need to register you during the annual USCIS lottery window, which opens each March for an October 1 start date.
How do I apply for Data Science Engineer jobs at AbbVie?
You can search and apply through AbbVie's careers portal directly. Before applying, review the role's focus area, as AbbVie organizes Data Science Engineering positions across therapeutic and commercial divisions with different technical requirements. Migrate Mate also aggregates verified AbbVie Data Science Engineer openings filtered by visa sponsorship type, which makes it easier to identify roles suited to your authorization status.
Which visa types does AbbVie commonly use for Data Science Engineers?
AbbVie sponsors several nonimmigrant visa categories for Data Science Engineers, including H-1B, H-1B1 for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, E-3 for Australian citizens, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals under USMCA, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students on active academic programs. For permanent residency, AbbVie has filed EB-2 and EB-3 petitions for qualifying engineers. The right category depends on your nationality, degree level, and current immigration status.
What qualifications does AbbVie expect for Data Science Engineer roles?
AbbVie generally expects a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, statistics, biostatistics, or a closely related quantitative discipline. Practical experience with Python, R, or Scala and familiarity with cloud data platforms such as AWS or Azure are common requirements. For roles supporting clinical or regulatory functions, exposure to GxP data standards, reproducible research workflows, or bioinformatics pipelines is a meaningful differentiator given AbbVie's pharmaceutical operating environment.
How do I navigate the H-1B filing timeline as an AbbVie Data Science Engineer candidate?
If you need an H-1B and are subject to the annual cap, the timeline is fixed. USCIS opens registration in March, conducts a lottery if registrations exceed available slots, and selected candidates have petitions filed for an October 1 start date. Securing an offer well before March gives AbbVie's immigration team time to prepare your Labor Condition Application with DOL, which must be certified before the H-1B petition is submitted to USCIS.
