Align your credentials to pharmaceutical development standards
AbbVie's Development Manager roles typically require a science or engineering degree backed by hands-on drug development or clinical program experience. Document your credentials clearly so they map to U.S. specialty occupation standards before you apply.
Target therapeutic areas where AbbVie is actively hiring
AbbVie's pipeline is concentrated in immunology, oncology, and neuroscience. Framing your development background around these therapeutic areas makes your application more relevant and signals genuine alignment with their active programs.
Understand which visa pathway fits your nationality
Australian citizens can pursue the E-3, Canadian or Mexican professionals may qualify for TN, and most other nationalities go through H-1B. Knowing your pathway before the offer stage means you can answer recruiter questions about sponsorship confidently and avoid delays.
Factor in H-1B cap timing when planning your start date
If you need H-1B sponsorship, USCIS only accepts cap-subject petitions once per year with an October 1 start date. Discuss this timeline with your AbbVie recruiter early so the offer and filing deadlines align without putting your start date at risk.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Development Manager roles at AbbVie
Filtering by role and sponsor history takes time when you're job searching across a large pharmaceutical employer. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsorship-friendly openings at AbbVie so you can focus your applications where they have the strongest chance.
Prepare for the LCA prevailing wage step before your offer
Before AbbVie can file your H-1B or E-3 petition, DOL must certify a Labor Condition Application confirming your salary meets the prevailing wage for the role and location. Understanding this step helps you have an informed salary conversation and avoid surprises at the offer stage.

Find Development Manager at AbbVie JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does AbbVie sponsor H-1B visas for Development Managers?
Yes, AbbVie sponsors H-1B visas for Development Manager roles. The company has a consistent pattern of supporting international talent across its drug development and clinical operations functions. Because H-1B sponsorship requires DOL Labor Condition Application certification and USCIS petition filing, AbbVie's recruiting and HR teams are accustomed to managing that process for qualified candidates in this role.
Which visa types does AbbVie commonly use for Development Manager roles?
AbbVie sponsors several visa categories for Development Managers depending on the candidate's nationality. H-1B and H-1B1 are the most broadly applicable. Australian citizens can use the E-3, which carries no lottery and allows unlimited renewals. Canadian and Mexican professionals may qualify for TN status. AbbVie also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, J-1 exchange visitors, and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card pathways for longer-term sponsorship.
What qualifications does AbbVie expect for a Development Manager?
AbbVie's Development Manager roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in life sciences, chemistry, engineering, or a related field, along with experience managing pharmaceutical development programs or clinical operations. Familiarity with regulatory submissions, cross-functional team leadership, and therapeutic area knowledge in immunology, oncology, or neuroscience strengthens your application significantly. Advanced degrees and PMP or equivalent project management credentials are advantageous for senior-level openings.
How do I apply for Development Manager jobs at AbbVie?
You can browse and apply for Development Manager positions at AbbVie directly through their careers portal, or use Migrate Mate to filter for AbbVie roles that include visa sponsorship. When applying, tailor your resume to reflect your pharmaceutical development experience and relevant therapeutic area background. If you're on OPT or need H-1B sponsorship, flag your visa status early in the recruiter conversation so the timeline can be built into the offer process.
How long does the visa sponsorship process typically take for a Development Manager at AbbVie?
Timeline depends on your visa type. E-3 and TN petitions can often be processed in a few weeks. H-1B cap-subject petitions follow USCIS's annual registration window in March, with employment starting no earlier than October 1, meaning the end-to-end process from offer to start date can span six months or more. If you're already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT, AbbVie can file your H-1B while you continue working, provided you have sufficient OPT time remaining.
