Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
AbbVie's BD Consultant roles typically require a degree in life sciences, business, or a related field. Before applying, confirm your credentials clearly map to the role's specialty occupation definition, since USCIS scrutinizes degree-to-job-field alignment on H-1B petitions.
Target AbbVie's therapeutic area teams directly
AbbVie organizes BD hiring around franchises like immunology, oncology, and neuroscience. Applying to roles within a therapeutic area where your background fits strengthens the case that your degree is directly relevant, which matters when your employer builds the H-1B petition.
Understand how LCA prevailing wage affects your offer
Before accepting an offer, check the DOL's prevailing wage for Business Development Consultant roles in AbbVie's hiring location. Your offered salary must meet or exceed that threshold on the Labor Condition Application, and knowing this protects you from accepting below-compliant offers.
Use Migrate Mate to find open BD roles at AbbVie
AbbVie posts Business Development Consultant openings across multiple locations and therapeutic divisions at different times of the year. Use Migrate Mate to filter for sponsorship-confirmed roles at AbbVie so you're applying to positions where immigration support is already built into the hiring process.
Clarify Green Card sponsorship timing during negotiations
AbbVie sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions for qualifying roles, but PERM labor certification timelines vary by location and backlog. Ask your recruiter specifically whether the BD Consultant position is eligible for employer-sponsored permanent residence and what the typical timeline looks like.

Find Business Development Consultant at AbbVie JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does AbbVie sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Consultants?
Yes, AbbVie sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Consultant roles. The company also supports H-1B1 petitions for eligible nationals. Because BD Consultant positions require specialized knowledge in pharmaceutical or biotech commercialization, they generally meet the specialty occupation threshold USCIS requires. Confirm sponsorship eligibility for the specific role and location during your recruiter conversation.
How do I apply for Business Development Consultant jobs at AbbVie?
Applications go through AbbVie's careers portal at abbvie.com. Roles are organized by therapeutic area and business function, so search for Business Development Consultant positions filtered by your region. Migrate Mate also aggregates AbbVie's sponsorship-confirmed BD openings, making it easier to identify which postings actively support visa sponsorship before you invest time in the application.
Which visa types does AbbVie commonly use for Business Development Consultant roles?
AbbVie sponsors multiple visa categories for this function, including H-1B, H-1B1, E-3, TN, J-1, and F-1 OPT and CPT. For candidates seeking permanent residence, the company files EB-2 and EB-3 petitions. The right category depends on your nationality, degree, and whether you're transitioning from student status or entering from outside the United States.
What qualifications does AbbVie expect for Business Development Consultant roles?
AbbVie typically looks for candidates with a background in life sciences, business, or a related field, combined with experience in pharmaceutical or biotech commercial strategy, licensing, or partnership development. MBA holders with prior industry exposure are common in this pipeline. For visa purposes, your degree must clearly align with the specialty occupation definition USCIS applies to the role.
How do I plan my timeline if I need AbbVie to sponsor an H-1B for this role?
The H-1B cap lottery opens each March for an October 1 start date, leaving a roughly six-month gap between selection and employment authorization. If you're on OPT with STEM extension, you may have more runway. Start discussions with your AbbVie recruiter at least four to five months before your current status expires so the company can prepare the registration in time.
