Align your credentials with PE licensing expectations
Garver's structural roles often require or strongly prefer a Professional Engineer license. Before applying, check which U.S. state's PE requirements align with your target office location, since licensing reciprocity varies and some states require NCEES records early in the process.
Target Garver's transportation and bridge project teams
Garver's structural work is concentrated in transportation infrastructure, including bridge design and inspection. Framing your resume around AASHTO standards, load rating, or bridge rehabilitation projects signals direct fit with the teams most actively hiring structural engineers.
Confirm OPT start dates against Garver's hiring cycle
Garver recruits heavily through campus programs, so your F-1 OPT start date needs to realistically align with their onboarding windows. USCIS recommends applying for OPT at least 90 days before your intended start date to avoid gaps in work authorization.
Clarify H-1B cap timing during your offer stage
If you're graduating and receiving a Garver offer, confirm whether you'll still have OPT days remaining past October 1, the H-1B cap start date. Running out of OPT before the cap date creates a gap you'll need a cap-gap authorization extension to bridge legally.
Understand how PERM affects your long-term path at Garver
Garver's sponsorship of EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards involves a DOL PERM labor certification before USCIS petition filing. Structural engineering roles typically qualify under Schedule A or standard PERM, but your degree field and job duties must precisely match the certified position description.
Browse open Structural Engineer roles at Garver on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Garver's structural engineer openings by visa type and location. This helps you identify which offices are actively hiring sponsored candidates so you can prioritize applications where your work authorization is already a confirmed fit.

Find Structural Engineer at Garver JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Garver sponsor H-1B visas for Structural Engineers?
Yes, Garver sponsors H-1B visas for Structural Engineer roles. As a consulting firm with active infrastructure projects across multiple states, Garver has an established sponsorship process for international engineers. If you're currently on OPT or another nonimmigrant status, it's worth discussing H-1B sponsorship directly during the offer stage so both timelines align before the annual USCIS registration window opens in March.
How do I apply for Structural Engineer jobs at Garver?
You can browse and apply for Structural Engineer positions at Garver through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm eligibility before applying. Garver recruits from both campus pipelines and experienced hire channels, so applications are accepted year-round. Tailoring your resume to highlight infrastructure project experience and relevant software proficiency, such as STAAD or SAP2000, strengthens your application.
Which visa types does Garver commonly use for Structural Engineer roles?
Garver sponsors a range of visa types for Structural Engineers, including H-1B, TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), F-1 OPT and CPT, J-1, and Green Card pathways under EB-2 and EB-3. The right category depends on your nationality, degree level, and where you are in your career. TN is often the fastest path for eligible nationals, while EB-2 and EB-3 require a longer PERM-based process through the Department of Labor.
What qualifications does Garver expect for Structural Engineer candidates seeking sponsorship?
Garver typically expects a bachelor's or master's degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited program for sponsored Structural Engineer roles. Experience with transportation infrastructure, including bridge design, load analysis, or inspection, is frequently prioritized given Garver's project mix. Progress toward or achievement of a Professional Engineer license significantly strengthens your candidacy, particularly for mid-level and senior positions where PE stamp authority is required.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when joining Garver as a Structural Engineer?
Timeline depends on the visa type. F-1 OPT authorization from USCIS takes up to 90 days, so you'll need to plan your start date accordingly. H-1B petitions filed under standard processing currently take several months, while premium processing can reduce that to 15 business days. Green Card sponsorship through PERM typically takes one to three years from initial DOL filing through USCIS approval, depending on your priority date and country of birth.
