Extensive background emphasis in concrete design for environmental structures, including high-volume, custom plant projects, will allow this team leader the opportunity to be hands-on with design, directly involved with clients, provide mentorship to team members and actively participate in marketing initiatives.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Generally, the responsibilities of this role will entail taking projects from conceptual planning to bid ready documents, including preliminary member sizing, design calculations, inter-discipline coordination, preparation of specifications, coordination with regional offices and quality assurance and control.
Ideal candidates shall be capable of evaluating and designing a wide variety of materials including concrete, concrete masonry unit (CMU), steel aluminum and fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP).
Day to day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting regional teams with structural related business development activities
- Perform structural assessments of existing facilities for planning purposes
- Developing conceptual level structural designs for water and wastewater treatment facilities including but not limited to treatment process basins, chemical facilities, administration buildings, retaining walls, pump/lift stations, tanks, vaults and other associated structures
- Developing detailed structural designs, including contract documents (plans and specifications)
- Preparing design calculations and coordinating with other design disciplines for design of treatment facilities
- Coordinating with Garver regional teams for construction cost estimating and quality assurance and control
- Managing and mentoring teams, coordinating schedules, monitoring project budgets, and ensuring delivery of quality work products which adhere to Garver standardization
- Being included in client meetings, industry conferences, and serving as a subject matter expert for the Water Business Line
In addition, the Structural Team Leader will be responsible for:
- Recruiting top talent for the structural team
- Developing scope, schedule, level of effort, and fees for projects
- Managing, mentoring and professional development for structural team members
- Driving the detailed design through coordination with other support disciplines
- Planning, managing, and executing structural staff workload

- Planning and monitoring budgets
- Complying with the quality program, including ensuring delivery of quality work products that adhere to Garver standardization

- Travelling occasionally as necessary to facilitate design, construction, or assessment of facilities or to perform workshops
Some travel may be required for business development purposes, including proposal development, interviews, knowledge transfer sessions, and industry related conference attendance. Project specific travel may also be required for site assessments, project workshops, design review meetings, and support during construction. Due to the collaborative nature of coordination for large infrastructure projects, candidates must have the ability to seek out and resolve issues through close interaction with other project team members. In addition, the candidate shall be able to maintain a positive team attitude and interpersonal effectiveness to recruit, develop and maintain an efficient and productive structural team. The structural group leader will also be responsible for coordinating structural team workload across Water Design Centers.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Project Team Leader Jobs at Garver Jobs
Frame your credentials around U.S. PE licensure
Garver's Project Team Leader roles frequently require or strongly prefer a Professional Engineer license. Before applying, assess whether your home-country credentials can be evaluated for U.S. equivalency, since this directly affects your H-1B specialty occupation classification.
Target Garver's infrastructure and water divisions
Project Team Leader openings at Garver cluster in infrastructure planning and water resources. Tailoring your resume to those practice areas, with project delivery examples using U.S. standards like AASHTO or AWWA, improves your chances of clearing the initial screening.
Understand how PERM affects your green card timeline
Garver sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards through PERM labor certification. For Project Team Leader roles, DOL requires documented recruitment before filing, so factor 12 to 18 months of processing into your long-term planning once you receive an offer.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Project Team Leader roles
Identifying which Garver offices are actively hiring and which visa types they're filing takes research. Use Migrate Mate to filter Project Team Leader openings at Garver by sponsorship type and location before you apply.

Find Project Team Leader at Garver JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Garver sponsor H-1B visas for Project Team Leaders?
Yes, Garver sponsors H-1B visas for Project Team Leader roles. These positions typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards because they require a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or a related technical field. Your degree field and the specific duties of the role both factor into how USCIS evaluates the petition, so alignment between your credentials and the job description matters.
Which visa types does Garver commonly use for Project Team Leaders?
Garver works with several visa categories for this role. H-1B is the primary option for most international candidates. F-1 OPT and CPT cover students and recent graduates during or after their program. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican citizens in qualifying engineering roles. Garver also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for longer-term candidates pursuing permanent residence through the PERM process.
What qualifications does Garver expect for Project Team Leader roles?
Garver generally looks for a degree in civil, environmental, or a related engineering discipline, along with demonstrated experience managing project delivery from planning through construction or implementation. A Professional Engineer license is valued and sometimes required, depending on the practice area. Familiarity with U.S. infrastructure standards and client-facing project management experience in consulting environments strengthens your profile significantly.
How do I apply for Project Team Leader jobs at Garver?
You can search for Project Team Leader openings directly on Garver's careers page or use Migrate Mate to filter Garver roles by visa sponsorship type and location. When applying, clearly document your visa status and work authorization timeline in your application. Garver recruits across multiple regions, so filtering by office location helps you target divisions that are actively hiring for this function.
How do I plan my timeline if I need Garver to sponsor my visa?
Timeline depends on your current status. If you're on F-1 OPT, your employer can file an H-1B cap-subject petition in April for an October 1 start. TN and J-1 transitions can happen more quickly. Green Card sponsorship through PERM typically takes one to two years after your start date. Aligning your offer timing with USCIS filing windows avoids gaps in your authorization to work.
