As a leader of Garver’s growing Water Design Center, the Structural Team Leader will be responsible for building, leading and managing a group of structural engineering professionals in support of various water/wastewater projects. Extensive background emphasis in concrete design for environmental structures, including high-volume, custom plant projects, will allow this team leader the opportunity to be hands-on with design, directly involved with clients, provide mentorship to team members and actively participate in marketing initiatives.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Generally, the responsibilities of this role will entail taking projects from conceptual planning to bid ready documents, including preliminary member sizing, design calculations, inter-discipline coordination, preparation of specifications, coordination with regional offices and quality assurance and control.
Ideal candidates shall be capable of evaluating and designing a wide variety of materials including concrete, concrete masonry unit (CMU), steel aluminum and fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP).
Day to day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting regional teams with structural related business development activities
- Perform structural assessments of existing facilities for planning purposes
- Developing conceptual level structural designs for water and wastewater treatment facilities including but not limited to treatment process basins, chemical facilities, administration buildings, retaining walls, pump/lift stations, tanks, vaults and other associated structures
- Developing detailed structural designs, including contract documents (plans and specifications)
- Preparing design calculations and coordinating with other design disciplines for design of treatment facilities
- Coordinating with Garver regional teams for construction cost estimating and quality assurance and control
- Managing and mentoring teams, coordinating schedules, monitoring project budgets, and ensuring delivery of quality work products which adhere to Garver standardization
- Being included in client meetings, industry conferences, and serving as a subject matter expert for the Water Business Line
In addition, the Structural Team Leader will be responsible for:
- Recruiting top talent for the structural team
- Developing scope, schedule, level of effort, and fees for projects
- Managing, mentoring and professional development for structural team members
- Driving the detailed design through coordination with other support disciplines
- Planning, managing, and executing structural staff workload
- Coordinating and maintaining project schedules
- Planning and monitoring budgets
- Complying with the quality program, including ensuring delivery of quality work products that adhere to Garver standardization
- Developing Structural standards and tools, procurement, and training in coordination with other WDC structural groups
- Travelling occasionally as necessary to facilitate design, construction, or assessment of facilities or to perform workshops
Some travel may be required for business development purposes, including proposal development, interviews, knowledge transfer sessions, and industry related conference attendance. Project specific travel may also be required for site assessments, project workshops, design review meetings, and support during construction. Due to the collaborative nature of coordination for large infrastructure projects, candidates must have the ability to seek out and resolve issues through close interaction with other project team members. In addition, the candidate shall be able to maintain a positive team attitude and interpersonal effectiveness to recruit, develop and maintain an efficient and productive structural team. The structural group leader will also be responsible for coordinating structural team workload across Water Design Centers.

Align your credentials to Garver's project disciplines
Garver staffs Team Leaders across civil, structural, environmental, and transportation engineering. Get your foreign degree evaluated by a NACES-member organization before you apply. A credential evaluation that maps your qualifications to a U.S. equivalent strengthens your H-1B specialty occupation case.
Target open requisitions labeled leadership or senior
Garver posts Team Leader roles tied to specific regional offices and practice areas. Filtering by seniority level narrows your target list to positions where sponsorship conversations are most realistic. Applying broadly across every office dilutes your focus and slows your outreach.
Clarify sponsorship intent early in recruiter screens
Consulting firms often decide on sponsorship at the hiring manager level, not HR. Raise your visa status in the first recruiter call, not after an offer. Garver's Team Leader roles require licensed or senior-level contributors, so interviewers expect candidates to come prepared with clear employment authorization details.
Understand how TN status applies to your role
If you're Canadian or Mexican, a TN visa may get you to your start date faster than an H-1B cap cycle. Team Leader roles in engineering consulting often qualify under TN's engineer category. Confirm your specific job duties map to a listed TN occupation before assuming eligibility.
Plan around PERM timelines if Green Card is your goal
Garver sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, but PERM labor certification with DOL typically takes 12 to 18 months before an I-140 petition is even filed. If you're targeting permanent residence, start that conversation well before your H-1B extensions run out.
Browse Garver Team Leader openings on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by visa sponsorship type, so you can surface Garver's Team Leader postings alongside their sponsorship history. That context helps you prioritize applications and walk into recruiter conversations already knowing which visa pathways the company has supported.

Find Team Leader at Garver JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Garver sponsor H-1B visas for Team Leaders?
Yes, Garver sponsors H-1B visas for Team Leader roles. These positions typically qualify as specialty occupations in engineering or consulting, which is the core requirement for H-1B eligibility. If you're currently on OPT or a prior H-1B, Garver has the infrastructure to support both new petitions and transfers. Confirm sponsorship intent early in the interview process, since timelines depend on your current status and where you are in the H-1B cap cycle.
How do I apply for Team Leader jobs at Garver?
You can apply directly through Garver's careers portal or find their open Team Leader positions on Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa sponsorship type. Before applying, tailor your resume to reflect project leadership experience in Garver's core practice areas, such as transportation, water, or aviation engineering. Garver's Team Leader roles are competitive, so highlighting licensed professional credentials and client-facing project delivery experience gives your application a stronger foundation.
Which visa types does Garver commonly use for Team Leader hires?
Garver sponsors several visa categories for Team Leader roles, including H-1B, TN, J-1, F-1 OPT and CPT, and employment-based Green Cards through the EB-2 and EB-3 preference categories. TN is often the fastest path for Canadian and Mexican nationals in engineering roles. F-1 OPT candidates with STEM degrees may qualify for a 24-month OPT extension, which creates a longer runway before an H-1B petition is required.
What qualifications does Garver expect for Team Leader roles?
Garver's Team Leader positions in engineering consulting typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering or technical discipline, along with significant project management or team leadership experience. A Professional Engineer license is a common expectation at this level, particularly for roles tied to public infrastructure projects. Candidates without a U.S.-equivalent degree should have their credentials evaluated through a NACES-member service before applying.
How do I time my application around H-1B cap deadlines?
The H-1B cap registration window opens each March, with petitions filed for an October 1 start date if selected. If you're targeting a Team Leader role at Garver and are not yet on H-1B status, plan to have an offer and petition filed well before that window closes. Garver hires across multiple regional offices, so engaging their recruiting team in the fall or winter gives you the best lead time before USCIS registration opens.
