Frame your PE licensure before applying
Garver's Civil Project Manager roles frequently require or strongly prefer a Professional Engineer license. If your PE is pending, document your exam status and supervised experience hours clearly so hiring managers can assess your timeline without guessing.
Target Garver's infrastructure-heavy regional offices
Garver operates across the South, Midwest, and Mountain West, with heavy project pipelines in transportation and water infrastructure. Offices in states with active DOT contracts tend to have the most consistent Civil Project Manager openings, so filter your search by those regions first.
Confirm visa type eligibility before your first interview
Garver sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT, among others. Know which category fits your situation before your first conversation with a recruiter, because civil consulting firms move quickly from offer to filing and expect candidates to understand their own status.
Align your OPT start date with project kick-offs
If you're on F-1 OPT, timing matters. Garver's project-driven staffing means offers often align with contract awards. Coordinate your OPT activation date with USCIS processing windows so your work authorization is active when a project requires you to be billable.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open Civil Project Manager roles
Garver posts openings across multiple channels, and not all are easy to track consistently. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified Civil Project Manager positions at Garver filtered by visa sponsorship type, so you're applying to roles where your specific status is already supported.
Prepare PERM documentation early for permanent residency
If Garver moves you toward an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card, the PERM labor certification process requires detailed records of your education, job duties, and foreign worker eligibility. Gather degree transcripts, employment verification letters, and job description documentation before the process starts, not after.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Garver sponsor H-1B visas for Civil Project Managers?
Yes, Garver sponsors H-1B visas for Civil Project Manager roles. As an engineering and consulting firm, Garver regularly files H-1B petitions for specialty occupation positions in civil engineering and project management. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, Garver can file an H-1B transfer so you maintain valid status through the transition without gaps in work authorization.
How do I apply for Civil Project Manager jobs at Garver?
You can apply directly through Garver's careers portal or find open Civil Project Manager positions filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate. Before applying, confirm the specific office location and practice area listed in the posting, since Garver's project needs vary by region. Tailor your application to reflect relevant infrastructure or transportation project experience, as those sectors dominate Garver's civil portfolio.
Which visa types does Garver commonly use for Civil Project Manager roles?
Garver sponsors H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1 visa, EB-2, and EB-3 for this role. TN visas apply to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering classifications. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates before an H-1B petition is filed. EB-2 and EB-3 are the typical Green Card pathways for longer-term employees moving through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does Garver expect for Civil Project Manager candidates?
Garver typically expects a bachelor's degree or higher in civil engineering or a closely related field, along with several years of project management experience in infrastructure, transportation, water, or similar disciplines. A Professional Engineer license is frequently required or preferred, particularly for roles with client-facing responsibilities. Candidates without a U.S. PE license should clarify their licensure status and timeline early in the process.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when joining Garver?
Timeline depends on your visa category. H-1B standard processing through USCIS currently runs several months, while premium processing can shorten adjudication to around 15 business days for an additional fee. TN status for Canadian citizens can often be obtained at the border in a single day. F-1 OPT requires USCIS approval before your start date, so file your EAD application at least 90 days in advance through your Designated School Official.
