Align your credentials to PE licensure expectations
Garver's engineering roles often expect EIT certification or active pursuit of PE licensure. Having your foreign engineering credentials evaluated by a NACES-member organization before you apply strengthens your specialty occupation case and signals readiness to U.S. hiring managers.
Target project-specific openings over general postings
Garver staffs engineers against funded infrastructure and municipal projects. Applying to roles tied to a named project or program increases your chances because the business need is immediate, which makes the employer more motivated to move quickly on sponsorship paperwork.
Clarify OPT STEM extension eligibility before your interview
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm whether your degree field qualifies for the 24-month STEM extension. Engineering disciplines typically qualify, giving Garver a longer runway before needing to file an H-1B and reducing urgency pressure on both sides during offer negotiations.
Understand when PERM filing becomes part of the path
For permanent residency through EB-2 or EB-3, Garver would need to run a PERM labor certification with the DOL before filing your immigrant petition. Ask during the offer stage whether the company has done this for engineering roles before, so you understand the realistic timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for Garver's sponsored engineering roles
Garver posts across multiple channels, and not every listing signals sponsorship availability. Use Migrate Mate to surface Garver's engineering openings specifically verified for visa sponsorship, so you're not guessing which roles are actually accessible to international candidates.
Ask about H-1B cap timing during offer negotiations
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed for an April 1 start, with USCIS registration in March. If you receive an offer outside that window, ask Garver's HR team explicitly how they handle the gap, whether through extended OPT, TN status if eligible, or a deferred start.

Find Engineering at Garver JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Garver sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Garver sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles. The company operates across consulting and infrastructure sectors where specialized technical skills are in consistent demand, and it has a documented history of supporting international engineers through the H-1B process. If you're cap-subject, your petition would need to clear the annual USCIS lottery before approval.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Garver?
Applications go through Garver's careers portal, where openings are listed by discipline and location. You can also find Garver's sponsored engineering roles through Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for positions open to visa sponsorship. Tailor your resume to the project types listed in the job description, and be direct about your work authorization status in your application.
Which visa types does Garver commonly use for Engineering roles?
Garver supports several visa categories for engineering hires, including H-1B for specialty occupation roles, F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates, TN for Canadian and Mexican engineers in qualifying disciplines, and J-1 for exchange-based positions. For engineers pursuing permanent residency, Garver has also supported EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways through PERM labor certification with the DOL.
What qualifications does Garver expect for sponsored engineering positions?
Most of Garver's engineering roles require a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline, which aligns with the USCIS specialty occupation standard for H-1B eligibility. Many roles also expect familiarity with design software specific to the discipline, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or HEC-RAS for water resources roles. EIT registration and progress toward PE licensure are common expectations for mid-level positions.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Garver engineering role?
Timeline depends heavily on visa type. F-1 OPT authorization through USCIS takes 3 to 5 months from application, so apply early if you're approaching graduation. H-1B cap-subject petitions follow a fixed annual cycle with USCIS registration in March and an October 1 start date at the earliest. TN status for Canadians can be obtained at the border on the same day. PERM-based Green Card cases typically take one to three years or more depending on your country of birth.
