Align your credentials with LCA-approved roles
Westwood hires for specialty occupation roles, so your degree must directly match the engineering discipline in the job posting. A civil engineering role requires a civil engineering credential, not a related field. Review DOL Labor Condition Application filings to confirm which specializations Westwood has historically certified.
Target Westwood's infrastructure and land development teams
Westwood's engineering work centers on civil, environmental, and land development projects. Tailor your resume to project delivery experience in those domains. Consulting firms like Westwood prioritize candidates who can step onto client-facing infrastructure projects immediately, so highlight relevant field and design work.
Search open Engineering roles through Migrate Mate
Westwood lists engineering positions across multiple offices and project teams. Use Migrate Mate to filter Westwood's open roles by visa sponsorship eligibility so you're only applying to positions where sponsorship is actively available, not just historically possible.
Clarify TN eligibility before your offer conversation
If you're Canadian or Mexican, TN status is often faster than H-1B for engineering roles and avoids the lottery entirely. Confirm your engineering discipline appears on the USMCA TN occupation list and that your degree matches exactly before raising it with Westwood's HR team.
Understand cap-subject timing if you're on OPT
If Westwood extends you an offer while you're on F-1 OPT, your H-1B petition must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. STEM OPT gives you up to 24 months of buffer, but confirm your graduation date leaves enough runway to clear the USCIS cap-subject filing window.
Prepare for PERM documentation early if targeting a Green Card
Consulting firms that sponsor EB-2 or EB-3 require extensive recruitment documentation for PERM. Westwood must demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers were available. Keep records of your interviews, offers, and role scope from day one so your attorney has a clean file when the PERM process starts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Westwood Professional Services sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes. Westwood Professional Services has sponsored H-1B visas for engineering roles. Because H-1B is a specialty occupation visa, your degree must directly correspond to the engineering discipline of the role. Westwood's consulting work spans civil, environmental, and land development engineering, and those specializations have historically supported qualifying specialty occupation determinations with USCIS.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Westwood Professional Services?
You can browse Westwood's open engineering positions directly on their careers page or through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship eligibility. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific engineering discipline and project type listed. Westwood is a project-driven consulting firm, so demonstrated experience in infrastructure or land development delivery strengthens your application significantly.
Which visa types does Westwood Professional Services commonly use for Engineering roles?
Westwood sponsors across several visa categories for engineering positions, including H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1 visa, and EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visas. TN visa is available for Canadian and Mexican engineers in qualifying disciplines and avoids the H-1B lottery. For those on F-1, CPT can support internship placements before full-time employment begins under OPT.
What qualifications does Westwood Professional Services expect for sponsored Engineering roles?
Westwood typically hires engineers with degrees in civil, environmental, geotechnical, transportation, or related disciplines. For visa sponsorship to hold up under USCIS review, your degree must match the specific role, not just a general engineering background. Professional licensure such as EIT or PE status is valued and strengthens both your candidacy and the specialty occupation determination in any H-1B petition.
How long does the sponsorship process take for an Engineering role at Westwood?
Timeline depends on the visa type. TN status can be obtained at the border or port of entry for Canadians, sometimes the same day. H-1B requires filing by April 1 with an October 1 start date, and USCIS premium processing can accelerate approval to around 15 business days. EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM typically takes two or more years from initiation.
