Align Your Credentials to PE Licensure Expectations
Westwood actively hires engineers working toward Professional Engineer licensure. Before applying, document your EIT status, relevant state exams passed, and any NCEES records. Consulting firms evaluate candidates on licensure trajectory, not just current credentials.
Target Offices in High-Growth Service Markets
Westwood operates across multiple states with concentrated civil infrastructure and land development pipelines. Research which regional offices are actively expanding and tailor your application to those locations, since sponsorship decisions often originate at the office level.
Clarify Your OPT or CPT Authorization Upfront
If you're on F-1 status, confirm your STEM OPT eligibility before your first interview. Civil engineering qualifies under STEM OPT extensions, giving you up to three years of work authorization while Westwood prepares an H-1B petition without immediate lottery pressure.
Understand the H-1B Cap Timeline for Your Offer
H-1B registration opens in March each year for an October 1 start date. If you receive an offer outside that window, work with Westwood's HR team to understand whether a cap-exempt filing or a TN arrangement applies to bridge your start date.
Request PERM-Based Sponsorship Discussions Early
Consulting firms like Westwood can initiate PERM labor certification for EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card pathways after you've demonstrated performance. Raise long-term sponsorship in your offer negotiation so both sides understand the commitment before your first day.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Active Civil Engineer Openings
Westwood posts Civil Project Engineer roles across multiple offices at different seniority levels. Use Migrate Mate to filter active openings by visa sponsorship type so you're only applying to positions where your authorization is explicitly supported.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Westwood Professional Services sponsor H-1B visas for Civil Project Engineers?
Yes, Westwood Professional Services sponsors H-1B visas for Civil Project Engineers. As a consulting and professional services firm with ongoing infrastructure and land development work, they have a history of sponsoring international engineers across multiple visa categories. Your best path is to confirm sponsorship intent during the offer stage, since timelines depend on your current status and where you are in the H-1B cap cycle.
How do I apply for Civil Project Engineer jobs at Westwood Professional Services?
Applications go through Westwood's careers portal, where roles are listed by region and discipline. Before applying, tailor your resume to reflect civil design, project delivery, or site development experience relevant to the specific office's service lines. Migrate Mate is a useful starting point to identify which Civil Project Engineer openings at Westwood explicitly support visa sponsorship, so you can focus your effort on the right postings.
Which visa types does Westwood Professional Services commonly use for Civil Project Engineers?
Westwood sponsors Civil Project Engineers through H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1 visa, EB-2, and EB-3 pathways. F-1 OPT with a STEM extension is a common entry point for recent graduates since civil engineering qualifies under STEM categories. TN visa status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM process is typically available after an established employment period.
What qualifications does Westwood Professional Services expect for Civil Project Engineer roles?
Westwood typically looks for a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field, along with hands-on project experience in areas like site design, grading, stormwater, or transportation. EIT certification and progress toward a Professional Engineer license are strong differentiators. For senior roles, direct client management or QA/QC responsibilities carry significant weight in the evaluation.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take if I receive an offer from Westwood Professional Services?
Timeline depends on your visa category. F-1 OPT authorization through your university's DSO can be confirmed within a few weeks. H-1B petitions under the annual cap follow a fixed March registration window with an October 1 start date, so offers made mid-year may require bridging through OPT or another status. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through DOL typically takes one to two years before reaching the I-140 petition stage with USCIS.
