Align Your Credentials to U.S. Licensure Expectations
WSP's civil engineering teams value progress toward a Professional Engineer license. Before applying, confirm your foreign degree translates to a U.S.-equivalent bachelor's in civil or a related engineering discipline, since specialty occupation status depends on that alignment.
Target WSP Roles Tied to Federal Infrastructure Work
WSP wins large federal transportation and water contracts that require sustained project staffing. Roles tied to those programs tend to come with longer timelines and stronger employer incentive to file petitions, including Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 PERM.
Disclose Your Visa Type Early in Recruiter Conversations
WSP's talent acquisition team handles a range of visa categories for engineering hires. Telling your recruiter upfront whether you're on F-1 OPT, TN, or E-3 lets them route your file to the right internal team before an offer is extended.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Open Civil Engineering Roles
WSP posts Civil Project Engineer openings across dozens of U.S. offices, and availability shifts by region and contract cycle. Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type so you're only applying to positions that match your current authorization status.
Understand How TN Status Works for Canadian and Mexican Engineers
If you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship, civil engineering qualifies for TN status under the USMCA. WSP has hired TN workers in this role, and TN doesn't require USCIS approval before you start, which can compress the timeline between offer and day one.
Prepare for a Multi-Stage H-1B Process at a Large Employer
WSP files H-1B petitions as a large consulting firm with established legal counsel. USCIS requires a certified DOL Labor Condition Application before the H-1B petition can be filed, so coordinating that step with your offer timing is critical to avoid authorization gaps.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does WSP sponsor H-1B visas for Civil Project Engineers?
Yes, WSP sponsors H-1B visas for Civil Project Engineers. As a large professional services firm with an established immigration program, WSP has the infrastructure to support H-1B petitions, including the required Labor Condition Application filed with the DOL. Your role must qualify as a specialty occupation, which civil engineering positions generally satisfy given the degree requirements involved.
How do I apply for Civil Project Engineer jobs at WSP?
You can browse and apply for Civil Project Engineer roles at WSP through Migrate Mate, which filters open positions by visa sponsorship type so you can identify which roles match your current status. WSP's application process typically involves a recruiter screen, technical interview, and offer stage, and disclosing your visa situation early helps the internal team plan sponsorship logistics alongside your hire.
Which visa types does WSP commonly use for Civil Project Engineer roles?
WSP sponsors a range of visa categories for Civil Project Engineers, including H-1B, E-3 visa for Australian citizens, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, and employment-based Green Cards through EB-2 and EB-3 PERM for longer-term hires. The right category depends on your citizenship, degree, and how far along you are in your career.
What qualifications does WSP expect for Civil Project Engineer candidates?
WSP typically looks for a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited program, along with relevant project experience in infrastructure, transportation, water, or environmental work. Progress toward a Professional Engineer license is often referenced in job postings. For visa purposes, your degree must align directly with the role's technical requirements to satisfy USCIS specialty occupation criteria.
How long does the sponsorship process take for a Civil Project Engineer at WSP?
Timeline depends on visa type. TN status can be obtained at the border or port of entry with no USCIS wait. H-1B petitions are subject to the annual lottery with an October 1 start date, meaning you may wait up to a year from offer to start. E-3 consular processing in Australia typically takes two to four weeks after an appointment is secured. PERM-based Green Card filings run considerably longer, often two or more years from initiation.
