Align Your Credentials With U.S. Standards Early
GHD's civil project roles typically require state PE licensure or active pursuit of it. Confirm your foreign engineering degree maps to a U.S. four-year ABET-equivalent before applying, since credential gaps surface during PERM's supervised recruitment phase.
Target GHD's Infrastructure Practice Areas Strategically
GHD organizes civil work across water, transport, and energy sectors. Applying to a specific practice area rather than a generic opening signals fit and shortens the internal routing process, which matters when you're working against OPT or grace period deadlines.
Clarify Sponsorship Intent Before the Offer Stage
GHD sponsors multiple visa categories including TN and F-1 OPT, so raise your status during the final interview round, not after an offer is extended. Ambiguity at the offer stage creates delays that can compress your authorization window.
Understand What TN Eligibility Means for This Role
Civil engineering is an explicitly listed TN profession under USMCA for Canadian and Mexican citizens. If you qualify, TN processing at the port of entry can have you authorized within a single day, bypassing USCIS filing timelines entirely.
Build Your Application Around GHD's Project Portfolio
Browse current GHD civil project openings and sponsorship history on Migrate Mate to identify which U.S. offices are actively hiring. Targeting offices with open roles in your discipline gives you the strongest chance of triggering an active sponsorship filing.
Prepare for the PERM Timeline If Pursuing a Green Card
EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship requires DOL's PERM labor certification before USCIS adjudicates your immigrant petition. The full process from PERM filing to Green Card approval can span several years, so begin the conversation with your GHD recruiter well before your nonimmigrant status approaches its limit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does GHD sponsor H-1B visas for Civil Project Engineers?
GHD's sponsorship activity for Civil Project Engineer roles centers on categories like EB-2, EB-3, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN visa, and J-1 visa rather than H-1B visa. If H-1B is your only pathway, it's worth confirming directly with GHD's recruiting team during the interview process, since sponsorship decisions depend on the specific role, office location, and your current status.
How do I apply for Civil Project Engineer jobs at GHD?
You can search and apply for Civil Project Engineer positions at GHD directly through GHD's careers portal. To find roles that explicitly support visa sponsorship for international candidates, browse GHD's open civil engineering listings on Migrate Mate, which filters for sponsorship-friendly openings and shows relevant details about the company's hiring patterns for this role.
Which visa types does GHD commonly use for Civil Project Engineers?
GHD has sponsored Civil Project Engineers under EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories as well as F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1 nonimmigrant categories. TN is available exclusively to Canadian and Mexican citizens since civil engineering is a qualifying USMCA profession. F-1 OPT and CPT are limited to current students and recent graduates authorized through their school.
What qualifications does GHD expect for Civil Project Engineer roles?
GHD's civil project openings typically require a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline, with preference for candidates who hold or are actively pursuing a Professional Engineer license in the relevant U.S. state. Project experience in water infrastructure, transportation, or energy sectors strengthens your application significantly, and GHD's PERM filings for this role require demonstrating those qualifications meet a defined minimum.
How do I plan my timeline if GHD is sponsoring my work visa?
Timeline depends heavily on visa type. TN approvals can happen the same day at a port of entry for eligible Canadians and Mexicans. F-1 OPT gives you up to 12 months of work authorization with a possible 24-month STEM extension. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card paths involve PERM labor certification with DOL followed by an I-140 petition with USCIS, a process that can take multiple years from start to finish.
