Align your degree to GHD's technical disciplines
GHD recruits graduates into civil, environmental, structural, and water engineering functions. Before applying, confirm your degree field maps directly to your target role, since specialty occupation status depends on a clear degree-to-job connection.
Apply before OPT authorization runs short
GHD's graduate hiring cycles often run through campus recruitment in the fall. If your OPT authorization starts within months of an offer, flag your timeline in conversations with the recruiting team so they can plan the transition to H-1B sponsorship.
Ask HR whether GHD uses E-Verify at your target office
E-Verify enrollment affects whether STEM OPT extensions require a formal training plan. Confirming this early lets you prepare your I-983 with your supervisor before USCIS paperwork deadlines stack up.
Target offices with active infrastructure project pipelines
GHD's sponsorship activity tends to follow project demand. Offices working on large transportation, water, or energy mandates are more likely to have open graduate headcount and the budget to support a PERM or EB-3 petition down the road.
Understand the PERM timeline before accepting an offer
Permanent residency through EB-2 or EB-3 requires a PERM labor certification filed with DOL, which can take a year or more before the I-140 stage. Knowing this helps you set realistic expectations during offer negotiations with GHD.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Graduate roles at GHD
Searching for sponsorship-friendly positions across a large consulting firm is time-consuming. Migrate Mate lets you filter GHD's graduate openings by visa type, so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already on the table.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does GHD sponsor H-1B visas for Graduates?
GHD does sponsor H-1B visas, and graduate-level engineering and advisory roles are among the positions the firm has supported. Because H-1B cap-subject petitions are subject to an annual lottery, timing matters. Graduates typically enter on F-1 OPT first, with H-1B visa sponsorship initiated ahead of the April filing window for an October 1 start date.
How do I apply for Graduate jobs at GHD?
GHD posts graduate openings directly on its careers site, and many positions are also accessible through Migrate Mate, where you can filter by visa sponsorship type. Campus recruiting is active at universities with strong civil and environmental engineering programs. Applying early in the fall recruiting cycle improves your chances before headcount is allocated.
Which visa types does GHD commonly use for Graduate roles?
GHD has sponsored F-1 OPT and CPT for students still completing their studies or in their post-completion authorization window, as well as J-1 visa for certain training-based placements. For longer-term employment, GHD has supported H-1B petitions and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3, which are common in engineering consulting for candidates who remain with the firm.
What qualifications does GHD expect from Graduate applicants seeking sponsorship?
Graduate roles at GHD typically require a bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant engineering or technical discipline, such as civil, environmental, structural, or water resources engineering. Because H-1B eligibility requires a direct connection between your degree field and the job duties, generalist degrees with limited technical coursework can complicate the petition, so specificity in your credentials matters.
How do I plan the timing of my application around visa deadlines?
If you're on F-1 OPT, your available work authorization window and the H-1B lottery cycle should shape when you apply and when you accept an offer. USCIS opens H-1B registration in March, with petitions filed in April for an October 1 start. Starting your GHD application process in the fall gives you time to secure an offer before the registration window opens.
