Align your credentials with U.S. licensing expectations
GHD hires engineers expected to work toward PE licensure in relevant U.S. states. Before applying, verify your foreign degree equivalency and identify whether your discipline maps to the FE exam pathway, which strengthens your candidacy significantly.
Target GHD's infrastructure-heavy service lines
GHD's U.S. sponsorship activity clusters around water, transportation, and environmental engineering. Emphasizing project experience in those sectors on your resume directly connects your background to the practice areas most likely to have open headcount.
Understand how TN status fits consulting roles
Canadian and Mexican engineers can enter on TN status without a lottery wait. Because GHD is a consulting firm, your offer letter must specifically describe engineering services work rather than general employment to satisfy the DOL's TN occupation definition at the border.
Request OPT start dates that match GHD's project cycles
GHD staffs projects on rolling timelines, so negotiating your F-1 OPT start date to align with a project kickoff rather than an arbitrary calendar date gives your team a concrete reason to onboard you quickly and reduces the gap before billable work begins.
Track GHD's PERM filings to gauge permanent residency intent
If Green Card sponsorship matters to you, confirm during the offer stage whether GHD has a policy of initiating PERM labor certification after a defined tenure. DOL's PERM process typically runs 12 to 18 months before an I-140 petition can even be filed.
Use Migrate Mate to filter GHD openings by visa type
Searching GHD's full job board manually won't surface which Engineering roles are open to sponsored candidates. Use Migrate Mate to filter GHD's live openings by visa category so you're only spending time on positions where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does GHD sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
GHD does sponsor H-1B visas for Engineering roles, though not every open position includes sponsorship as a default. Because GHD operates as a consulting and professional services firm, H-1B petitions it files must demonstrate that the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific engineering discipline. Roles tied to civil, environmental, or structural projects have the clearest eligibility profile.
Which visa types does GHD commonly use for Engineering roles?
GHD supports several visa categories for Engineering hires, including H-1B for degree-qualified engineers, F-1 OPT and CPT for students completing U.S. degrees, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations, and J-1 visa for exchange program participants. EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories are also on record, covering permanent residency pathways for longer-tenured engineers in specialty or professional roles.
What qualifications does GHD expect for Engineering positions?
Most GHD Engineering roles require a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as civil, environmental, geotechnical, or structural engineering. Many mid-level and senior positions also expect progress toward or completion of a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the applicable U.S. state. Project delivery experience in infrastructure, water systems, or environmental compliance is frequently listed as a requirement rather than a preference.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at GHD?
You can browse GHD's Engineering openings and filter by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which surfaces only roles where international candidates are welcome. When applying directly, tailor your resume to GHD's infrastructure and advisory service lines and address your work authorization status clearly in your cover letter so the recruiting team doesn't screen you out during an early administrative review.
How do I time my Engineering job search at GHD around visa deadlines?
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start, so you'd need an offer letter in hand by mid-March at the latest. If you're on F-1 OPT, the 60-day grace period after your authorized end date means a delayed offer can become a status problem quickly. Starting your GHD application process three to four months before any authorization deadline gives the recruiting and HR process enough runway to move without putting you out of status.
