ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
GHD has an opportunity for a Team Leader within our US Central Contamination Assessment & Remediation (CAR) South Business Group based in Golden, CO, with flexibility for a hybrid office/remote work environment. These Team Leader assignments will be held in conjunction with the successful candidate’s substantive technical, project, or client-facing role and will report directly to the Business Group Leader. This is a strong opportunity for experienced environmental consulting professionals who combine technical credibility, client focus, people leadership, operational discipline, and a commitment to developing high-performing teams.
Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- People leadership and team development: Provide direct line-management leadership for assigned team members, promote GHD’s core values, model collaboration, and create an employee experience where staff feel heard, supported, and engaged in their professional development.
- Business group execution: Assist the Business Group Leader with implementation of the business plan, including workload planning, resourcing, systems, processes, risk management, and timely delivery of services that meet scope, quality, budget, safety, and client expectations.
- Client focus and growth: Support client satisfaction, client care activities, go/no-go evaluations, technical review groups, proposal development, and business development efforts that strengthen the US Central CAR South portfolio.
- Operational discipline: Monitor team productivity, daily timekeeping, quarterly check-ins, quality performance, HSE expectations, and other high-performance habits that support consistent delivery and accountability.
- Technical and project delivery: Lead or support contaminated site assessment, remediation, closure, regulatory compliance, and environmental consulting projects while maintaining strong technical standards and defensible documentation.
- Mentorship and coaching: Work with Line Managers and the Business Group Leader to develop staff capability, provide performance feedback, support career growth, and identify future leadership potential.
- Collaboration across One GHD: Leverage the broader network of Team Leaders, Line Managers, technical specialists, and project teams to deliver integrated solutions and strengthen consistency across the business.
- Governance and accountability: Carry formal people-leadership accountability where assigned, while recognizing that the Team Leader designation is a leadership assignment held alongside the individual’s substantive role rather than a separate standalone role.
- Health, safety, and quality: Maintain a safe working environment and support compliance with GHD’s HSE and Quality systems, including completion and review of appropriate project safety and quality requirements.
- Regulatory and technical expertise: Apply working knowledge of federal and state environmental requirements, including U.S. EPA programs and relevant state regulatory frameworks applicable to Central Region CAR projects.
- Project and proposal leadership: Prepare or oversee technical correspondence, proposals, work plans, reports, project specifications, and regulatory submittals.
- Travel: Travel periodically for client meetings, project needs, team engagement, and business development activities, including occasional overnight travel.

Align your credentials to GHD's technical scope
GHD's Scientist roles often sit at the intersection of environmental compliance, site assessment, and data analysis. Frame your degree and experience around applied science in infrastructure or environmental consulting, not pure research, to match what hiring managers are actually screening for.
Target GHD's environmental and water service lines
GHD staffs Scientists heavily in environmental services and water projects. Search open roles filtered to those practice areas first. Positions tied to client-facing project delivery tend to have clearer specialty occupation framing, which strengthens an H-1B or EB petition.
Confirm OPT or CPT eligibility before applying
GHD sponsors F-1 OPT and CPT, so if you're currently studying or recently graduated, verify your program's authorization timeline with your DSO before your first interview. A 60-day gap between roles can interrupt status if you're not proactive about paperwork.
Ask about PERM sponsorship timing during the offer stage
GHD sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for Scientists, but PERM labor certification timelines at DOL can stretch well beyond a year. Clarify during offer negotiations whether the employer initiates PERM after a set tenure period, so you can plan your long-term status accordingly.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Scientist roles at GHD
Scientist openings at GHD that come with visa sponsorship aren't always easy to surface through general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for GHD Scientist roles by visa type, so you're only pursuing positions where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Document project-specific technical contributions before interviews
USCIS scrutinizes whether a Scientist role genuinely requires a specialized degree. Prepare concrete examples of past technical work tied to specific methodologies, software, or regulatory frameworks. GHD interviewers and immigration counsel will both rely on this detail when building the petition.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does GHD sponsor H-1B visas for Scientists?
GHD's sponsorship history for Scientist roles spans multiple visa categories, but H-1B visa is not among the types they have sponsored for this function based on available records. GHD has sponsored Scientist roles under EB-2, EB-3, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN visa, and J-1 visa. If H-1B visa is your primary pathway, confirm directly with GHD's recruiting or HR team during the offer process.
How do I apply for Scientist jobs at GHD?
You can apply directly through GHD's careers portal, where Scientist roles are listed by service line and location. For the most efficient search, use Migrate Mate to browse GHD's open Scientist positions filtered by visa sponsorship type, so you can identify which roles align with your specific immigration status before submitting an application.
Which visa types does GHD commonly sponsor for Scientist roles?
GHD sponsors Scientist positions under EB-2 and EB-3 for permanent residence, as well as F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1 for temporary work authorization. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying scientific occupations under the USMCA. J-1 sponsorship typically applies to exchange visitor programs rather than direct employment pathways.
What qualifications does GHD expect for Scientist roles?
GHD's Scientist positions typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as environmental science, chemistry, geology, or a related applied discipline. Roles embedded in environmental consulting or water services often expect familiarity with regulatory frameworks, field assessment methods, or environmental data management. Advanced degrees strengthen both your candidacy and any EB-2 petition if sponsorship is pursued.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Scientist at GHD?
Timeline depends on the visa category. F-1 OPT authorization through USCIS typically takes three to five months from application, so file early. TN status can be obtained at a port of entry for eligible nationals with minimal lead time. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM involves DOL labor certification, which currently averages over a year before USCIS adjudication even begins, making early planning critical.
