Align your credentials to GHD's technical disciplines
GHD hires Project Engineers across water, transportation, energy, and environment practices. Frame your resume and cover letter around one of these verticals explicitly. Generalist engineering profiles get filtered out early in a consulting firm's screening process.
Understand which visa fits your degree timeline
GHD sponsors F-1 OPT and CPT for students still in their academic window, TN for Canadian and Mexican engineers, and EB-2 or EB-3 for permanent residency. Knowing which pathway applies to you before your first interview prevents misaligned expectations on both sides.
Search GHD's open roles on Migrate Mate
GHD posts Project Engineer openings across multiple U.S. regions at any given time. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for GHD roles that include visa sponsorship, so you're not spending time on listings that won't move your immigration status forward.
Prepare a PE licensure plan before interviews
GHD consulting roles often expect progress toward Professional Engineer licensure. Having a clear timeline for your FE exam or PE application signals long-term commitment to the firm and strengthens your case for employer-sponsored permanent residency through EB-2 or EB-3.
Ask about PERM timing during the offer stage
If you're targeting a Green Card through GHD, ask your recruiter whether the role qualifies for PERM labor certification and what the firm's typical timeline looks like. PERM is employer-initiated, so understanding GHD's internal process early prevents surprises after you've accepted an offer.
Use your OPT window strategically to prove value
Consulting firms like GHD evaluate Project Engineers heavily on client-facing delivery. If you join on F-1 OPT, use that period to build a project track record within one of GHD's core sectors. That performance history directly strengthens the internal business case for your H-1B sponsorship filing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does GHD sponsor H-1B visas for Project Engineers?
GHD does not appear in recent DOL LCA disclosure data as a frequent H-1B visa filer for Project Engineer roles, which means H-1B sponsorship is not a standard offering for this position. GHD's documented sponsorship activity for Project Engineers centers on EB-2, EB-3, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN visa, and J-1 visas. If H-1B visa sponsorship is a requirement for your situation, clarify this directly with GHD's recruiter before advancing through the interview process.
How do I apply for Project Engineer jobs at GHD?
Applications go through GHD's careers portal, where you can filter by role and location. GHD recruits Project Engineers across multiple U.S. offices, so targeting a region that aligns with your engineering discipline improves your chances. Migrate Mate also aggregates GHD's open Project Engineer positions with sponsorship filters, letting you identify visa-eligible listings before you apply.
Which visa types does GHD commonly use for Project Engineers?
For Project Engineer roles, GHD has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visas for permanent residency candidates, F-1 OPT and CPT for students transitioning from university programs, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican engineers qualifying under USMCA, and J-1 visas for exchange-based arrangements. The pathway available to you depends on your nationality, current status, and career stage.
What qualifications does GHD expect for sponsored Project Engineer roles?
GHD typically looks for a bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline for Project Engineer positions. Progress toward or attainment of Professional Engineer licensure carries weight, particularly for roles involving client deliverables. Relevant project experience in GHD's core sectors, including water infrastructure, transportation, or energy, strengthens your application considerably over a generalist profile.
How do I time my application if I'm on F-1 OPT?
F-1 OPT gives you 12 months of work authorization after graduation, with a 24-month STEM extension available for qualifying engineering degrees. If you join GHD during your OPT window, your employer will need to file any subsequent sponsorship, such as TN or EB-3 PERM, before your authorization expires. Starting the conversation with GHD's HR team about next-step sponsorship at least six months before your OPT end date gives the process enough runway.
