Align your credentials to U.S. standards early
GHD's civil engineering roles typically require a U.S.-accredited degree or an evaluated equivalent. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization before applying so your application isn't flagged during the offer stage.
Target GHD's infrastructure-heavy service lines
GHD staffs civil engineers most heavily across water, transportation, and environmental services. Applying to roles within these practice areas puts you in front of the teams most familiar with sponsoring international hires and running PERM-backed Green Card processes.
Understand how TN status applies to your role
If you're Canadian or Mexican, TN visa classification for Civil Engineer is explicitly listed in the USMCA schedule. GHD has sponsored TN status for this role, and TN doesn't require an I-129 petition filed months in advance, which meaningfully shortens the offer-to-start timeline.
Ask specifically about EB-2 and EB-3 pathways during negotiation
GHD's sponsorship for civil engineers has included both EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories. When you receive an offer, ask whether the company initiates PERM labor certification concurrently with your nonimmigrant visa, since parallel filing can significantly shorten your Green Card timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open civil engineer roles by visa type
GHD regularly posts civil engineer openings across U.S. offices. Use Migrate Mate to filter those listings by the visa categories GHD sponsors, so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed rather than negotiating it from scratch.
Prepare for DOL prevailing wage requirements before your offer letter
PERM-based sponsorship requires GHD to pay the DOL-determined prevailing wage for the role's location and experience level. Review the DOL Foreign Labor Certification Data Center's wage findings for civil engineers in your target city so you can negotiate from an informed position.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does GHD sponsor H-1B visas for Civil Engineers?
GHD's visa sponsorship for Civil Engineers focuses on immigrant visa categories like EB-2 and EB-3, along with F-1 OPT, CPT, TN visa, and J-1 visa status. H-1B visa sponsorship is not prominently featured in GHD's recent civil engineering sponsorship activity, so if H-1B is your primary pathway, confirm the position's eligibility directly with the GHD recruiting team before advancing.
How do I apply for Civil Engineer jobs at GHD?
Applications go through GHD's careers portal, where you can filter by location and discipline. Civil Engineer roles at GHD are also listed on Migrate Mate, where you can filter specifically by visa type to identify which openings align with your authorization status before applying. Tailor your resume to the specific practice area, such as water, transportation, or environmental, since GHD evaluates technical fit at the service line level.
Which visa types does GHD commonly use for Civil Engineer roles?
GHD has sponsored Civil Engineers on F-1 OPT and CPT, TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals, J-1 exchange visitor visas, and both EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories. TN is often the fastest route for eligible nationals since it doesn't require a USCIS petition, while EB-2 and EB-3 involve PERM labor certification through the DOL and suit longer-term employment arrangements.
What qualifications and experience does GHD expect from Civil Engineers?
GHD typically requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline, and for PERM-sponsored roles, the position must have a genuine degree requirement to satisfy DOL standards. Project experience in water infrastructure, transportation, or environmental systems is valued. Professional Engineer licensure, or active pursuit of it, strengthens applications for mid-level and senior roles across GHD's U.S. offices.
How do I know if a specific GHD civil engineering role includes visa sponsorship?
Visa sponsorship eligibility isn't always stated clearly in GHD's job postings. The most reliable approach is to contact the recruiter assigned to the role and ask directly which work authorization categories GHD will support for that specific position. Sponsorship decisions at consulting firms often depend on the office, project pipeline, and the candidate's qualifications, so getting written confirmation before accepting an offer protects you from late-stage surprises.
