Align your credentials to U.S. project types
Westwood's civil work spans site development, transportation, and utility design. Before applying, translate your international project experience into U.S. deliverable formats, referencing grading plans, TIA reports, or utility coordination, so hiring managers see immediate fit.
Target Westwood offices in high-growth markets
Westwood operates across multiple states with concentrated hiring in Sun Belt and Mountain West markets. Applying to offices in active development corridors increases your odds of finding a team with open headcount and a manager experienced with sponsored hires.
Get your EIT or PE licensure process started early
Consulting firms like Westwood bill engineers against project codes, so licensure status directly affects your billable value. Sitting for the FE exam before you interview signals you're tracking toward PE, which strengthens your offer negotiation and visa petition justification.
Clarify LCA wage compliance before your offer letter
DOL requires Westwood to file a Labor Condition Application certifying your offered salary meets prevailing wage for your work location and level. Ask your recruiter which wage level they're targeting early so there are no surprises when the H-1B petition is drafted.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Civil Engineer roles by sponsorship type
Not every Westwood posting will specify visa support upfront. Use Migrate Mate to surface Civil Engineer roles at Westwood that are open to sponsored candidates, so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already expected rather than negotiated from scratch.
Build your PERM record from your first day
If you're targeting a Green Card through PERM, your employment history and documented duties at Westwood become your audit trail. Keep dated records of your project responsibilities, supervisory duties, and degree requirements from the start of your role.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Westwood Professional Services sponsor H-1B visas for Civil Engineers?
Yes, Westwood Professional Services sponsors H-1B visas for Civil Engineers. As a consulting firm with recurring hiring needs for degreed engineers, Westwood has an established process for supporting international candidates through the H-1B petition. Sponsorship is typically tied to roles requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in civil engineering or a closely related field, consistent with USCIS specialty occupation standards.
Which visa types does Westwood Professional Services commonly use for Civil Engineer roles?
Westwood supports several visa categories for Civil Engineers, including H-1B, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for students completing engineering programs, J-1 visa for exchange visitors, and EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visas for candidates pursuing permanent residence. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree level, and how far along you are in your career.
How do I apply for Civil Engineer jobs at Westwood Professional Services?
You can browse and apply for Civil Engineer positions at Westwood Professional Services through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm sponsorship eligibility before applying. When you apply, tailor your resume to reflect U.S.-style civil engineering deliverables and be prepared to discuss your licensure status, since Westwood's consulting model values engineers tracking toward PE registration.
What qualifications does Westwood Professional Services expect from Civil Engineer candidates?
Westwood typically expects a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related discipline, which also satisfies USCIS specialty occupation requirements for H-1B sponsorship. Practical experience with site design, grading, drainage, or transportation projects is valued across most roles. Candidates who have passed the FE exam or hold an EIT designation are generally more competitive, particularly for mid-level positions where billable project delivery is expected from day one.
How do I understand the timeline between a job offer and starting work with visa sponsorship at Westwood?
The timeline depends on your visa type. For H-1B transfers or cap-exempt filings, USCIS standard processing runs roughly three to six months, though premium processing can shorten that to 15 business days. For F-1 OPT, work authorization can begin within your authorized period without a USCIS petition. If Westwood is filing a new H-1B subject to the annual cap, the October 1 start date is fixed regardless of when the offer is made.
