Align Your Resume to Client-Facing Roles
Consulting firms like Westwood staff Software Engineers on client projects, so your resume should reflect project-based delivery, not just internal product work. Highlight technologies and domains that map to enterprise consulting engagements.
Verify Your OPT Timeline Before Applying
If you're on F-1 OPT, calculate how many months remain before you apply. Westwood's consulting hiring cycles can run eight to twelve weeks, and starting too late leaves no buffer for employer onboarding before your authorization expires.
Ask Directly About H-1B Cap-Subject Timing
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. When you reach the offer stage, confirm with your recruiter whether Westwood plans to file in the upcoming registration window so you can plan accordingly.
Search Verified Sponsoring Roles on Migrate Mate
Filter Software Engineer openings by visa type on Migrate Mate to surface roles at Westwood Professional Services that explicitly support sponsorship. This saves time compared to screening unfiltered job boards where sponsorship eligibility is unclear.
Understand How PERM Fits Your Long-Term Path
Consulting employers supporting EB-2 or EB-3 Green Cards must complete PERM labor certification through DOL before filing the immigrant petition. Ask during offer negotiations whether Westwood initiates PERM after a defined period of employment.
Prepare Credentials That Support Specialty Occupation Classification
USCIS requires H-1B roles to qualify as specialty occupations. For Software Engineer positions at a consulting firm, have transcripts, degree equivalency evaluations if applicable, and documentation showing your degree field directly relates to the role's technical requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Westwood Professional Services sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Westwood Professional Services sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineer roles. As a consulting firm placing engineers on client engagements, they have experience navigating the H-1B process, including cap-subject filings and transfers. If you're already on an H-1B with another employer, Westwood can file an H-1B transfer, which lets you start working as soon as USCIS receives the petition.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Westwood Professional Services?
You can browse and apply for Software Engineer openings at Westwood Professional Services directly through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm eligibility before applying. When applying, clearly indicate your current visa status and work authorization timeline in your application or initial recruiter conversation to avoid delays later in the process.
Which visa types does Westwood Professional Services commonly use for Software Engineers?
Westwood Professional Services sponsors multiple visa categories for Software Engineers, including H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN visa, J-1 visa, and employment-based Green Cards through the EB-2 and EB-3 preference categories. The right visa depends on your nationality, educational background, and where you are in your immigration journey. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical roles without a lottery.
What qualifications does Westwood Professional Services expect from Software Engineer candidates?
Westwood typically looks for Software Engineers with a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Because they operate in a consulting environment, practical experience delivering solutions for enterprise clients carries significant weight. For H-1B sponsorship specifically, USCIS requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, so your degree must be directly relevant to the job's technical requirements.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Software Engineer offer at Westwood Professional Services?
Timeline depends on your visa type. An H-1B transfer can allow you to start within days of USCIS receiving the petition. A cap-subject H-1B filing requires registration in March with an October 1 start date if selected. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through DOL and USCIS typically takes one to three years or longer depending on your country of birth and priority date backlog.
