Align your credentials to U.S. engineering standards
Westwood recruits for licensed and licensure-track engineers. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get it evaluated by a NACES-member credential evaluator before applying so your qualifications map cleanly to the role requirements.
Target Westwood's infrastructure and utility verticals
Westwood staffs Electrical Engineers most heavily in power delivery, land development, and infrastructure consulting. Tailoring your application to one of these verticals signals fit and increases the likelihood you land in a team with active sponsorship experience.
Clarify sponsorship scope before accepting an offer
Consulting firms sometimes sponsor H-1B transfers but not new H-1B cap petitions. Confirm in writing whether Westwood will support a cap-subject H-1B filing or only a cap-exempt transfer before you exit your current status.
Understand how the LCA affects your work location
Westwood operates across multiple states, and the DOL Labor Condition Application ties your H-1B to a specific worksite. If your role involves multi-site project work, confirm how Westwood handles LCA amendments so your authorization stays current.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Electrical Engineer roles
Not every open position at Westwood is posted with sponsorship details front and center. Use Migrate Mate to filter Westwood's Electrical Engineer openings by the visa types you need, so you apply only to roles where sponsorship is on the table.
Prepare for PERM timing if you're targeting a Green Card
Consulting firms that sponsor EB-2 or EB-3 Green Cards must run a PERM labor certification through DOL before filing with USCIS. That process typically takes 12 to 18 months, so raise Green Card sponsorship early in offer negotiations, not after you start.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Westwood Professional Services sponsor H-1B visas for Electrical Engineers?
Yes, Westwood Professional Services has sponsored H-1B visas for Electrical Engineers. As a professional services firm with active hiring in engineering disciplines, Westwood has an established sponsorship process. If you're pursuing a cap-subject H-1B, confirm early whether the specific role and team have budget approved for new petitions, since sponsorship decisions are made at the hiring level.
How do I apply for Electrical Engineer jobs at Westwood Professional Services?
You can browse and apply for Electrical Engineer openings at Westwood directly through their careers page or through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm the position supports your situation before applying. When you apply, be specific about the project verticals you've worked in, such as power delivery or land development, as Westwood hires across several distinct engineering practices.
Which visa types does Westwood Professional Services typically use for Electrical Engineers?
Westwood has sponsored H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1 visa, and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card pathways for engineering roles. For most international Electrical Engineers, H-1B is the primary long-term option. TN visa is available if you're a Canadian or Mexican national working in a qualifying engineering category. OPT and CPT are common entry points for candidates already studying or recently graduated in the U.S.
What qualifications and experience does Westwood look for in Electrical Engineer candidates?
Westwood typically hires Electrical Engineers with a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering or a closely related field. For mid to senior roles, project experience in power systems, utility design, or infrastructure consulting carries significant weight. Licensure eligibility, such as passing the FE exam or holding a PE license, strengthens your candidacy, particularly for client-facing or project-of-record responsibilities.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an Electrical Engineer at Westwood?
For H-1B sponsorship, Westwood would need to file a Labor Condition Application with DOL, which takes one to two weeks, followed by the USCIS petition. Standard processing runs three to five months; premium processing through USCIS reduces that to 15 business days for an additional fee. If you're pursuing an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card, factor in PERM labor certification, which typically adds 12 to 18 months before the immigrant petition stage.
