Align your credentials to PE licensure pathways
Olsson frequently hires Civil Engineers working toward Professional Engineer licensure. Before applying, confirm your foreign degree is evaluated by a NACES-approved credential evaluator, since state licensing boards and many consulting firms require equivalency documentation upfront.
Target Olsson's infrastructure-heavy service lines
Olsson's civil work concentrates in transportation, water resources, and land development. Frame your resume around project delivery in those disciplines. Hiring managers in consulting firms filter heavily by sector experience, so generic civil backgrounds get deprioritized quickly.
Clarify your OPT or CPT timeline before interviews
If you're on F-1 OPT, be ready to state your exact authorization end date and whether STEM OPT extension applies. Consulting firms like Olsson need to assess H-1B filing windows early, so proactively sharing this removes a common hiring hesitation.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Civil Engineer roles at Olsson
Search Migrate Mate's job board to filter Olsson Civil Engineer openings by visa type. This lets you identify which roles are actively posted with sponsorship context, so you're applying to positions where the path forward is already established.
Ask about H-1B filing timing during the offer stage
H-1B cap-subject petitions have an October 1 start date and must be filed months in advance. When Olsson extends an offer, confirm whether they file with USCIS before the March registration window or plan for a future fiscal year slot.
Prepare a project portfolio organized by engineering discipline
Consulting firms evaluate Civil Engineer candidates on tangible project outcomes. Organize work samples by discipline, scope size, and your specific role. This directly supports the specialty occupation documentation Olsson's immigration counsel will need for your H-1B petition.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Olsson sponsor H-1B visas for Civil Engineers?
Yes, Olsson has a track record of sponsoring H-1B visas for Civil Engineers. As a consulting and professional services firm, Olsson regularly works with immigration counsel to file cap-subject H-1B petitions for qualifying engineers. The role must meet USCIS specialty occupation standards, which civil engineering positions in a consulting context generally satisfy given the degree requirements involved.
Which visa types does Olsson commonly use for Civil Engineer roles?
Olsson sponsors H-1B visas for Civil Engineers and also works with candidates on F-1 OPT and F-1 CPT during or after engineering programs, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying civil engineering roles, and J-1 visas for eligible exchange visitors. The right visa type depends on your nationality, current status, and where you are in your career.
What qualifications does Olsson expect for Civil Engineer positions?
Olsson typically expects a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution. For sponsored roles, the degree must align directly with the job duties, which matters for both USCIS specialty occupation review and state PE licensing pathways. Relevant project experience in transportation, water resources, or land development strengthens your candidacy significantly.
How do I apply for Civil Engineer jobs at Olsson?
You can browse and apply for Civil Engineer roles at Olsson through Migrate Mate, which filters job listings by visa sponsorship type so you can identify the right openings before applying. Once you find a role, apply directly and be prepared to discuss your visa status, degree equivalency if applicable, and your timeline for work authorization during the interview process.
How do I plan my timeline if Olsson offers me a Civil Engineer role on H-1B?
H-1B cap-subject petitions are registered with USCIS in March, selected in a lottery, and filed for an October 1 start date. If Olsson extends an offer outside that window, your start date may be delayed by up to a year. Confirming the offer timeline early and asking Olsson's HR team about their immigration filing process helps you plan around that constraint.
