Align your credentials with U.S. licensing expectations
Olsson operates as a professional services firm, so Construction candidates benefit from having credentials that map cleanly to U.S. standards. An Engineer-in-Training designation or progress toward a Professional Engineer license signals you're serious about practicing in an American regulatory environment.
Target Olsson's infrastructure and site development openings
Olsson's Construction hiring tends to cluster around civil infrastructure, land development, and environmental site work. Search specifically for roles in those disciplines rather than generic construction titles, since specialty occupation classification under H-1B depends heavily on the specific job description matching your degree field.
Understand how TN status fits construction consulting
If you're Canadian or Mexican, TN visa classification covers engineers but not all construction roles. Confirm your job title maps to an eligible TN professional category before assuming it's available, since Olsson sponsors TN and a mismatch in job title can delay or derail the process entirely.
Ask about LCA timing before accepting an offer
Olsson must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL before submitting an H-1B petition. That step typically takes one to two weeks when uncontested. Knowing this timeline lets you negotiate a start date that doesn't create a gap between your current status expiring and your petition being filed.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Olsson's open Construction roles
Olsson posts Construction openings across multiple locations and disciplines at different times. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Olsson Construction roles that are open to visa sponsorship, so you're not manually tracking postings across job boards that don't surface sponsorship status.
Document OPT STEM eligibility before your first interview
Civil and construction engineering degrees typically qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving you up to three years of work authorization. Confirm your degree program's CIP code qualifies before your first interview at Olsson, so you can discuss realistic authorization timelines confidently without waiting on your DSO.

Find Construction at Olsson JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Olsson sponsor H-1B visas for Construction roles?
Yes, Olsson has sponsored H-1B visas for workers in technical roles including Construction. Because Olsson operates as a consulting and professional services firm, Construction positions typically need to meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard, meaning the role must normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Civil, structural, or environmental engineering degrees are the most common qualifying credentials for these positions.
Which visa types does Olsson commonly use for Construction positions?
Olsson sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and J-1 visas for eligible roles. For Construction, H-1B and TN are the most relevant long-term work authorization options. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates in civil or construction engineering programs, often leading to H-1B sponsorship once full-time employment is established.
What qualifications does Olsson expect for Construction roles requiring sponsorship?
Olsson's Construction openings in a consulting context generally require a bachelor's degree in civil, structural, or environmental engineering, or a closely related field. Relevant project experience in infrastructure, land development, or site engineering strengthens your application significantly. Because H-1B specialty occupation requires a direct connection between your degree and the role, a generalist construction background without an engineering degree is less likely to qualify.
How do I apply for Construction jobs at Olsson?
Start by identifying which of Olsson's open Construction roles align with your degree and experience. You can browse current Olsson Construction openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles where sponsorship is realistic. When you apply, tailor your resume to reflect the specific engineering discipline the role requires, since Olsson's positions in professional services carry specialty occupation expectations that generic construction experience alone may not satisfy.
How do I time my H-1B application if I'm currently on OPT and targeting Olsson?
If you're on F-1 OPT and receive an offer from Olsson, the H-1B cap-subject filing window opens each April 1 for an October 1 start date. If your OPT expires before October 1, a timely filed H-1B petition with USCIS grants a cap-gap extension that protects your work authorization through September 30. Confirm your OPT end date early and communicate it to Olsson's HR team so they can plan the filing timeline accordingly.
