Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Structural Project Engineer Jobs at Olsson Jobs
Get Your PE Licensure Strategy Ready
Olsson often expects Structural Project Engineers to be working toward or already holding a Professional Engineer license. Research which state PE exam you'll sit for and document any foreign degree equivalency evaluations before applying, since credentialing timelines can affect your start date.
Target Olsson's Infrastructure-Heavy Office Locations
Olsson's structural work spans transportation, water, and municipal infrastructure projects. Focus your applications on offices in states with active DOT or municipal contracts, where structural engineering demand is highest and sponsorship decisions are driven by project pipeline, not headcount targets.
Clarify Your OPT or CPT Timeline Before Interviews
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your STEM extension eligibility and remaining authorized period before your first Olsson interview. Structural engineering qualifies under USCIS-designated STEM codes, which gives you up to 36 months of OPT to bridge toward H-1B sponsorship.
Ask Recruiters About Project-Based Sponsorship Decisions
At consulting firms like Olsson, sponsorship approval often ties to whether a specific project has long-term staffing needs. Ask your recruiter directly which business unit is hiring and whether the role is project-backed, since that context shapes how quickly an H-1B petition moves forward.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open Structural Roles at Olsson
Structural Project Engineer openings at Olsson are distributed across multiple regions and don't always surface on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for visa-sponsoring structural roles at Olsson and monitor new postings as they go live.
Understand How TN Status Works for Canadian Engineers
Canadian citizens with a structural engineering degree can enter on TN status without waiting for H-1B lottery selection. TN classification requires a qualifying engineering role and a degree in a designated field. Confirm with Olsson's HR team that your specific role description aligns with TN's engineer category before your offer letter is finalized.

Find Structural Project Engineer at Olsson JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Olsson sponsor H-1B visas for Structural Project Engineers?
Yes, Olsson sponsors H-1B visas for Structural Project Engineers. Sponsorship decisions at consulting firms like Olsson are typically tied to business need and project staffing, so roles with active long-term project assignments are the strongest candidates for sponsorship. Structural engineering roles generally qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria, which is the foundational requirement for H-1B eligibility.
How do I apply for Structural Project Engineer jobs at Olsson?
You can apply through Olsson's careers portal or browse visa-sponsoring openings filtered to Olsson on Migrate Mate. When applying, highlight relevant project experience in structural systems, any PE licensure progress, and your work authorization status clearly. Olsson hires across multiple offices, so specifying your preferred region and indicating flexibility can improve your chances of matching to an active opening.
Which visa types does Olsson commonly use for Structural Project Engineers?
Olsson sponsors H-1B visas for longer-term hires and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates already studying in the U.S. Canadian citizens may qualify for TN status, which bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely and can be obtained at a port of entry. J-1 sponsorship is less common for engineering roles but has been used in specific training contexts.
What qualifications does Olsson expect for Structural Project Engineer roles?
Olsson typically looks for a bachelor's or master's degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited program, along with relevant project experience in structural analysis, design software such as RISA or SAP2000, and familiarity with building codes and load standards. Progress toward EIT or PE licensure is a meaningful differentiator, particularly for candidates seeking sponsorship, since Olsson invests in engineers with long-term career trajectory at the firm.
How do I time my application if I need visa sponsorship at Olsson?
If you're targeting H-1B sponsorship, Olsson would need to file your petition by early April for an October 1 start date, which means securing your offer by late January or February at the latest. For F-1 OPT candidates, starting employment before your OPT expires and confirming STEM extension eligibility immediately gives Olsson the runway needed to prepare a timely H-1B filing without a gap in your authorization.
