Align your credentials to PE licensure expectations
Garver hires Structural Project Engineers to lead client-facing deliverables, so an EIT credential and a clear path toward PE licensure strengthen your profile. Confirm your foreign degree is evaluated by NACES-approved evaluators before you apply.
Target Garver's infrastructure and transportation practices
Garver's structural work concentrates in bridge design, transportation structures, and water infrastructure. Tailoring your portfolio and resume to these verticals, rather than building or architectural structures, signals fit with their active project pipeline.
Search open Structural Project Engineer roles through Migrate Mate
Filter for Garver's Structural Project Engineer openings by visa type on Migrate Mate to confirm which roles are actively sponsoring before you apply, saving you the effort of pursuing positions without a clear sponsorship path.
Clarify OPT and CPT timelines early in interviews
If you're on F-1 OPT, raise your authorization end date and the H-1B cap-gap window with Garver's recruiter before an offer is extended. Engineering firms need lead time to coordinate LCA filings with DOL before the USCIS petition window opens.
Understand how TN status applies to your situation
Canadian and Mexican nationals with a qualifying engineering degree can enter on TN status without a lottery. Garver sponsors TN visas, so if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship, confirm this pathway with HR as an alternative to the H-1B process.
Prepare for PERM documentation if a Green Card is your goal
Garver sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, which require PERM labor certification through DOL. Gather foreign degree evaluations, transcripts, and employment records early. PERM audits are common in engineering, and missing documentation can add months to the process.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Garver sponsor H-1B visas for Structural Project Engineers?
Yes, Garver sponsors H-1B visas for Structural Project Engineers. The firm works with international engineers across its infrastructure and transportation practices and has an established process for filing H-1B petitions through USCIS. If you're on F-1 OPT, Garver can bridge you through the cap-gap period while your H-1B petition is pending, provided the petition is filed before your OPT expires.
How do I apply for Structural Project Engineer jobs at Garver?
You can find and apply for Structural Project Engineer roles at Garver directly through Migrate Mate, which filters Garver's open positions by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm sponsorship eligibility before applying. On your application, highlight relevant structural analysis experience, software proficiency such as STAAD or RISA, and any active engineering licensure. Garver's recruiting process typically includes a technical screen followed by team interviews.
Which visa types does Garver commonly use for Structural Project Engineer roles?
Garver sponsors several visa categories for Structural Project Engineers, including H-1B, TN visa, J-1 visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT. For longer-term pathways, Garver also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM labor certification. Canadian and Mexican nationals should specifically ask about TN visa status, which bypasses the H-1B lottery and can be obtained at the border or port of entry.
What qualifications does Garver expect for Structural Project Engineer roles?
Garver typically looks for a bachelor's or master's degree in civil or structural engineering, along with hands-on experience in structural design and analysis. EIT certification is common at the project engineer level, with PE licensure expected for senior progression. Proficiency in structural modeling software and experience on transportation or infrastructure projects, particularly bridges, aligns closely with Garver's core practice areas.
How do I estimate the timeline for H-1B sponsorship at a firm like Garver?
USCIS opens H-1B registration each March for an October 1 start date. If selected in the lottery, Garver's legal team files your petition, and USCIS standard processing takes three to six months. Premium processing, which USCIS adjudicates within 15 business days, is available if your start date or OPT expiration requires faster action. Build at least six months of lead time into your job search if you're targeting an October start.
