Align Your Credentials to Engineering Consulting Norms
Garver's BD roles sit inside a technical consulting firm, so a degree in engineering, architecture, or business paired with project pursuit experience reads far stronger than general sales credentials. Get your foreign transcripts evaluated before applying.
Target Garver's Regional Office Openings Strategically
Garver operates from offices across the South, Midwest, and Mountain West. BD hiring is often tied to specific regional growth plans, so applying to the office nearest an active infrastructure market improves your chances of landing a sponsorship-eligible offer.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Active Openings by Visa Type
Garver posts Business Development Leader roles across multiple regions, and not every listing makes sponsorship availability obvious. Use Migrate Mate to surface only the openings where Garver has an active sponsorship track record for this role.
Clarify Your OPT or TN Timeline Before Your First Interview
If you're on F-1 OPT, your available work authorization window directly affects Garver's willingness to start the H-1B process. Know your exact OPT end date and cap-gap eligibility before the conversation, so you can frame timing clearly for the hiring team.
Understand How PERM Affects BD Role Sponsorship
For EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, Garver must run a PERM labor market test through DOL before filing. BD roles require documenting that no equally qualified U.S. worker applied, so expect a formal recruitment period of several months before PERM is filed.
Prepare a Client Portfolio That Demonstrates Revenue Impact
Garver evaluates BD leaders on their ability to win contracts, not just manage relationships. Before negotiating an offer, document specific pursuits you led, proposal roles, and contract values won. This strengthens both the offer and any specialty occupation argument USCIS may scrutinize.

Find Business Development Leader at Garver JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Garver sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Leaders?
Yes, Garver sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Leaders. Because BD roles at an engineering consulting firm involve specialized business strategy, client acquisition, and technical market knowledge, they can qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards. Sponsorship is handled through Garver's HR and legal teams, and the process typically begins after an offer is accepted.
Which visa types does Garver commonly use for Business Development Leader roles?
Garver has sponsored H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1, and employment-based Green Card categories including EB-2 and EB-3 for this function. H-1B is the most common pathway for long-term work authorization. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. OPT and CPT are typically used as bridge authorization while a longer-term petition is prepared.
What qualifications does Garver expect for a Business Development Leader?
Garver typically looks for candidates with a background in engineering, architecture, or a related technical field combined with demonstrated experience pursuing contracts in the infrastructure or government consulting sector. Familiarity with proposal processes, client relationship management, and market strategy within engineering services carries more weight than general BD experience in unrelated industries.
How do I apply for Business Development Leader jobs at Garver?
You can browse and apply for Business Development Leader openings at Garver through Migrate Mate, which filters active roles by visa sponsorship eligibility so you're not wasting time on positions that won't support your immigration status. Garver posts openings across multiple regions, so check frequently as new positions reflect specific regional growth priorities rather than a single national search.
How do I plan my timeline if Garver is sponsoring my H-1B?
H-1B petitions are filed with USCIS once per year in April for an October 1 start date, subject to the annual lottery. If you're on OPT, confirm whether your authorization extends through cap-gap before the October transition. Premium processing is available and reduces the adjudication window to roughly 15 business days, which can help Garver plan your start date with more certainty.
